We haven't shown anything!

This is a really, really good throw.

WRs need to be better
Joe needs to be better (on other throws - this was perfect)

Good news, they will get better. Heupel will make sure of it IMHO, as he has with every offense he has had.

Oh ... They found the one good throw

You don’t think Florida has film of Tennessee. I’m over the “we haven’t shown the playbook”, yes we have, everyone has.

Exactly. TN had a ridiculously prominent offense last year with the likes of Hooker, Hyatt, Tillman, etc flying around setting records. They were in major games, title contention, which required them to throw everything they had at numerous games. The entire SEC has a full year of tape from last year, and the year before, to go along with the tape Huepel had at previous stops. The playbook is out there. Can new wrinkles be added, sure. But by and large, FL knows what TN wants/tends to do and vice versa.

Biggest difference between TN’s offense last year vs this year has nothing to do with “the playbook,” it has to do with personnel and experience. As talented as Milton is, he’s NOT as skilled and efficient and precise and cerebral as Hendon Hooker. He’s also not as experienced. And as good as the WR’s are, they are not as good as Hyatt and Tillman (at least not yet). Maybe they get there eventually.

Same can be said of Florida. Anthony Richardson is gone, and he single-handedly kept FL in the game last year with highlight play after highlight play. Graham Mertz won’t have any highlight plays. But aside from fewer planned QB runs, FL’s playbook will be 95%+ the same, with possibly some new wrinkles in.

“Playbook secrecy“ will have next to nothing impact on this game. It’ll come down to personnel and execution.

To me the jury is still out on Milton. This week will be the true test if he is as good as some say he is. So far, for me, Milton just isn't gettig the job done. He's been here for years and should be more accurate now....but he's not. I agree that some of that is the drops the receivers made which would have changed the AP game tremendously in VOL favor. That said, Milton just needs to relax and play the game he knows and hope it works out for us. GBO

That may be true but why try to hide it? Anybody that has watched our offense under Heupel knows we need the deep ball for this offense to be successful. It's no mystery. But I have wondered why we haven't thrown deep. Milton connected on numerous deep plays last year. I'm also wondering if they have been saving Seldon? Possibly have a package for him with his speed. Maybe they are saving it, but guess we will see Sat. We don't beat Ala, Fla, Pitt, Clemson etc without the numerous deep passes we hit on.
The offense doesn't have to hit the deep ball to be successful. If the opposing D is playing way off the receivers with safeties deep, the offense will run the ball and hit short passes and take what the D gives them. The offense will still be successful doing this if necessary. It's not what we're used to seeing from the offense, but it would still be successful.

I am concerned about Milton's throws behind receivers and too high. But, I don't remember UT throwing the deep ball more than once all season. Call me crazy. I think UT will be able to connect on a lot of deep routes vs FL this Saturday. I think Halzle and HEUPEL have been saving the deep throw calls for this game!!! I think the UT passing game will be at least 300 and the ground game at least 200. UT gets it done in the swamp! Vols by 10, 34-24! The only reason UF scores 24 is due to Milton finally throwing one pick to give them good field position and one TD.
We are average at best in the passing game.

I wonder if Florida will try to copy AP and play deep safeties and force Joe to hit the intermediate routes. If he’s able to do that then they will adjust and we’ll be able to take some deep shots
If they do that all game, our RB's will run for 300 yards :) :) :)

Milton isn’t going to get more accurate. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best explanation. We aren’t throwing downfield because when we have it’s been totally inept. Whether he’s throwing inaccurately or too hard they are incomplete.

They started by throwing intermediate against APSU and then backed off when they couldn’t complete anything.

It’s a function of performance. You could run simple route concepts to get him reps and not show the playbook. They aren’t doing that.
People who actually know football disagree with you. Milton is throwing for almost 70%.

Hope I'm wrong, but think we're seeing fall off in talent from Hooker, Hyatt, Tillman. Starts w/ QB but didn't see too many of our WR corp that's going to scare too many folks. Bru needs more touches. On flip side, I think our D is much better and think rushing game is very solid. I think we'll manage FL b/c our D should keep the score low and think we'll be able to run the ball on them.

I don't buy the playbook secrecy argument. We couldn't even execute vanilla play calling. Maybe we luck out and they get things under control this week with practice and look sharp this Saturday but it sounds like our best receivers didn't get enough work in during fall camp due to being banged up. I recall a bunch of "Squirrel, Donte, and/or Bru weren't out there today with the 1s" or "he was on the sideline stretching" etc.

I feel like they are trying to set up deep shots off the WR screens for Florida. I think Huepel has been vanilla these first 2 weeks but I'm not sure I'm very confident in the line holding up long enough to give Milton time or Milton hitting those regularly. If Joe can hit one or two early it's going to be a on, if not its going to be a long night. We have 2 blazing WR's in Thorton and White, completely baffled why we haven't seen deep shots to those 2. Milton and White have chemistry. One of 2 things imo, Huepel has zero confidence in Milton or he has been holding back on the deep ball. I believe he has been holding back, we find out Saturday night.
If he had zero confidence in Milton, Milton would not start. He’s not had to show anything theses first two games. Why would he? I know we didn’t win by enough for some folks Saturday but it is what it is. They got the dub and it’s on this week. Big boy ball starts this week. They’ll be just fine

To be fair, who else is he going to start? A walk-on or True Freshman? I love Joe and hope he succeed more than anyone but he could have been handed the job due to lack of options.

If he wanted to he would have started Nico. Milton will be fine IMO. He’s not going to be Hooker, I get it, it’s hard to get over first impressions but it’s Joe’s show now until it’s not.

The. Deep. Shot. Isn’t. There. Anymore.

Teams are playing back and until Joe can hit those slants across the middle we will be seeing more screens. It is what it is.
100%. It has nothing to do with Joe Milton, or any wide receiver. Both Virginia and Austin Peay played a ton of deep cover 2 and had their safeties deeper than normal. It’s that simple.

It should be to our advantage though, especially with our running game. Screen and gash teams to death up the middle and force them to bring an extra man into the box and the safeties up. That’s when the deep shot is open and CJH is one of the very best at finding that time.

It’s a little cliche, but this offensive scheme is unstoppable unless a defense can get consistent QB pressure with 4 down linemen (uga). If Joe Milton/WRs ever get on the same page between 5-15 yards, lookout for the Vols.

On all screens haha. Roll the tape. Over 80% of his completions are screens.

He was 1/6 to start the Austin Peay game and then they went to virtually all screens. That’s why his yards per attempt is 3 yards lower than Hookers.

How could that be considering his completion percentage is higher? They are all screens.

I think you are correct and I think we win...I also think Milton will get s thru a winning season and a decent bowl game. He has got benched at 2 schools for a reason....
