We In!

No way baylor loses to MSU, their 2 bigs are way better than T McC and Kim is better than VIc and does it in heels!

Agreed, I just hope we get to see that match-up! I’ve wanted to see Tierra and Kalani play since they were freshman. I think Kalani will beat her one on one, she has great feet and nice touch around the rim. Unless Tierra gets the oboard she doesn’t have many moves.

Kalani pretty much owned her when MSST won their E8 matchup a few years back, but I think Teaira has improved more than Kalani has since that matchup. I still think Brown has the edge, and not sure who on MSST will bust out 41 points like Morgan did to power MSST to a win.

Arkansas beat us head to head on our home court and looked the better team in the SEC Tournament... I thought they would make it in before we did. I'm really surprised by this and yes, I consider this a "legacy" bid.... this team did nothing to be in the NCAA Tournament. It also means we are stuck with Holly another year. Phil just breathed a sigh of relief.

I agree that Arkansas was the better team then the Lady Vols by the end of the SEC tournament. We are fooling ourselves if we think differently. I am glad our streak remains, but we got in on the Summitt factor and legacy and not because we, at this point, were better than Arkansas. No matter how much we love the Lady Vols, at this time, unless proven otherwise, we are in a constant state of ineptitude, with good talent.

Arkansas lost 8 out of their last 9 regular season games. They played cupcakes OOC, and their less favorable RPI and SOS reflected their schedule and the quality of their wins. They made a strong SECT run, but their resume wasn't as good as other teams that got in. The LVs aren't a good team, but their record was good enough to make the field in a soft bubble year. They weren't gifted a bid at Arkansas' expense.

I've made this point several times, but nobody seems to understand. They did play well in the tournament, but the whole season counts when it comes to who gets in and who does not.

They also had a relatively easier path to the final than other teams. Georgia was up and down all season and Arkansas played them close in the regular season. Same with South Carolina, Arkansas should have won the first game against them as well. South Carolina didn't show up to play that day, a lot like the Lady Vols several times this season.

Then they played a Chennedy Carterless A&M team. Had she played I don't think there is any way A&M and Gary Blair lose to them, they needed a closer down the stretch and didn't have one.

They then got appropriately stomped by MSST. Even worse than we did.

I loved watching them in the tournament, but tired of hearing people say they should have been in the NCAA tournament because of 3 games.

Yep. The narrative that the LVs were gifted a bid and robbed someone more deserving is infinitely more popular, albeit out of sync with the numbers. In a different year, the LVs' record and 60 RPI might have left them just out of the field. But scheduling matters, and the LVs' #34 SOS reflects that.

Rooting against the team is rooting against the program, and that's counterproductive to future success. Not making the NCAAT or losing the first day isn't going to make Fulmer fire Holly in outrage. If he were going to do that, he would've done it before now-- like after losing to a terrible Vandy team for the first time on the Summitt.

The cards have clearly turned in favor of Holly. I don't think she's going anywhere, even if they lose by 20 to UCLA.

She may not be going anywhere, but there's no telling how many fans will be leaving. The day I read that she's going to be the coach next season is the day I'll be checking out prices for season tickets for Chattanooga. I literally feel like it wouldn't be healthy for me to watch another season of Tennessee's players being mistreated. Yes, I said mistreated, because IMO that's what's happening.

The cards were always in favor of her getting another year, unless she's had enough and wants to retire. Fulmer seems willing to ride it out until he's ready to make a move.

And yeah, they could lose by (name your amount) to UCLA and he would just factor it in. UCLA's a good team, unlike Vandy, Alabama and others that have racked up historic losses against the LVs under Holly's reign.

What if they lose by 40-50 points to UConn?;)
That would mean that Tennessee upset 2 higher seeded teams and made the Sweet 16. "Who cares that they lost by 50? MSST lost by 60 and upset them in the FF the next year. Give this woman an extension today!!!!!!"

I'm telling you, I'm not getting my hopes up. I don't think she's going anywhere until she decides she's good and ready o_O

I had my hopes up that if they didn't make the NCAAT, then that would signal the end of the Series of Unfortunate Coaching, i.e. Holly's non-coaching career. Even with Drake and CMU losing, they still found a way to bumblefvck their way in, thus dooming us to another 2 years of "I don't know", "I can't coach effort", "Ok, I can't coach, period" from the esteemed coach of the program...

Phil could be planning something and nothing has come out about it yet. I think if Tennessee gets humiliated badly by UCLA,Maryland or UConn that Holly will "decide to retire" and the reason that she gives may be something like burnout. It will save Phil Fulmer from coming out and firing her and it will save Holly Warlick the humiliation of being fired.

I don't think she is self aware enough to understand she is the problem. Seems to me that she thinks it is everyone else and she's the victim.

She might "retire" but I don't think it will be of her own volition. She'll ride this horse into the ground if Fulmer lets her. Her retirement would be likely two options, "retire or fire."

I'm certain Fulmer won't fire Holly. They will come to a closed-door agreement and give her a soft landing. The question is when. Either she'll decide to retire or UT will push the issue, but she won't be given the unceremonious boot that a lot of fans want. That would be a bad look for the program. She's an alum, her jersey is hanging in the rafters and she has been with UT for many years. Keeping it classy is the right thing to do. Keeping her is something else entirely.

I 100% agree with this approach and hope this is what happens. I don't think she needs to be embarrassed, but she needs to privately accept that it's time to go.

If we end up being in the market for a new coach this off season, which direction do you think we go in looking for a new coach? I'm assuming that we won't break the bank for one.

I don't think we'll have to, even to get a good coach, small SEC money is bigger than big money in about any other conference. Should be able to get a very good coach for more than they're making now without breaking the bank.

I think Katie Meier,Wes Moore and Tina Langley would be very high on the list of potential candidates to be the possible next Tennessee women's basketball coach. I think Nikki Caldwell and Kyra Elzy could very possibly be on that list as well.

Who do you we can get realistically?

I just looked up how much Wes Moore is making. For some reason I thought he was making a lot more than what he actually is. I think we offered him the same money that we're paying Holly then I think he would walk here to accept the job.

Walz, Freese, moore or Rueck. All make less than what Holly makes. If we offered them 700K with bonuses and things like Holly, which is one the low end of women's coaches in the SEC, I think one of them would bite.

What Arkansas and Georgia have to learn is that you have to play a much tougher non-conference schedule than either decided to play. We could've played somebody else a lot easier than Notre Dame and Stanford and won 21 games. We wouldn't be in the tournament either. Both Arkansas and Georgia beat us but neither had the rpi of sos that we did and in the end those two things decides who is in or out.
