Around the NCAA. . .

Ruggles can blame his O for not getting another few yards for his kick or his D for not protecting a 2 TD lead....whiney loser

Dont see it as a excuse, he's taking ownership of it, shoulda made the kick.
It's a combination. It's denial followed by taking ownership.

The real problem is that OSU played a little scared on their last 2 offensive snaps and left him with a 50 yard FG attempt after completely falling apart on defense. It was a team choke.

They did choke as a team but he club footed that kick, not even close to a decent kick

No doubt about it. But it's not like it was a 30 yarder. At best, he had a 50/50 shot at making it.
That kick would have missed from 20, wounded duck all the way, hard spot to be in tho no doubt about that, pressure situation to the max.

50 yard field goals are never a gimme. Especially when you were 0-4 lifetime before you tried that one!
I didn't realize until later that he had never hit one beyond 50. How in the world was OSU not more aggressive on their last 2 plays before the attempt to get him an extra 10 yards?? The run call on the 2nd to last play is nuts when you consider that they really weren't in his range yet.

I hit a 3 wood 225-240 yds. When I try to hit it 250+, I shank it. He was clearly outside his range, he knew it and tried to hit it more than he was capable. The coach choked.
That's 100% what happened. The kid hit from 48 a few minutes earlier, but only had a couple of feet to spare.

I understood the run call. They were trying to get just a few yards and bleed the clock. If Saban called a run play on his last possession against us, we don’t have the 15 seconds to get into FG range.

The busted 3rd down play was the real problem. It came down to poor execution, not play calls.

If there was no chance he could make it I doubt they put him out there, you go for a hail mary or some last ditch effort not put in a kicker you know cant make the kick.
