But we were on track to win the division and play for a championship. We have zero hope of that now. He was a clown that I had zero faith in winning said championship, but he was at least in a position to hopefully have a shot. We are currently mathematically eliminated.

Florida won the East 6-2 and we finished 4-4. At this point we were 4-3 with Vanderbilt left and Florida was 6-2 with no regular season SEC games left. We were already eliminated. We had the head to head but no way to pass them.

Vanderbilt still had a game with LSU (which they did win, but were dogs). Would have tied the conference record and given us the head to head nod.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding things. The winner of the division is the one with the best conference record, not the best division record right? I mean unless two teams finish with the same record then tie breakers occur.

This is what Wikipedia says:

“Division standings are based on each team's overall conference record. The SEC Commissioner's Regulations requires each football team play all eight conference games in a season in order to be eligible to compete for a divisional title and play in the SEC Championship Game. When two or more teams tie for the best record in their division, each team is recognized as a divisional co-champion. Tiebreakers are used to determine who will represent the division in the championship game.”

If that understanding is correct Florida bad always won because they had finished their conference games and were 6-2 while we had Vanderbilt left and were 4-3 and could not finish any better than 5-3. Vanderbilt was 2-5 with us left. They didn’t play LSU at all that year and we were the last game of the season for them, same as they were for us. They ended up beating us and went 3-5. They had no way to pass Florida.

I also remembered Jones went 9-4 in 2015 too, and thought maybe that was what you meant, but we couldn’t win the division at this point then either if my understanding is correct.
