Aww...thats flattering, you're trying to copy UF's approach by naming their stadium something intimidating.  :birgits_giggle:  Good luck with that... :lame:

How about "The Pumkin Patch"?  Sure it's not really intimidating, but who doesn't like going to a pumpkin patch?

OldVol is right, the Hill is an oldie but goodie. But I was thinking and a few "substitutes" came to mind. The Big House (kinda fitting...), The brothel, house of pain, pit of dispair, giant hurt place. Just kidding. I like "the Hill", especially if you know the history (sports and otherwise).

Let me borrow that board a minute :banghead:

I can't believe some of these kids aren't up to snuff on UT history.

Prior to the enclosing of the North endzone area there was a beautiful scene on The Hill that overlooked the playing field. One of the great losses in the expansion of the stadium was the orange and white UT that intersected on the sloping hillside on the Northeast of the field.

This is where the nickname The Hill derived.

And yes everybody, Neyland's official nickname is "The Hill" but Neyland Stadium is just more widely used.

The Hill is really more than just a nick name. It's an entire concept.

"Hey, where do the Vols play this week?"

Answer (were it a home game) on The Hill.

Since the loss of the visual of the hillside beside the stadium it has lost some of its visibility, but we should push to restore the concept of playing on The Hill.

Sorry, I'm getting pysched up for the football game tonight.

We're gonna take them by suprise... They run a 3-3-5 defense and we played aces and spreads last week in our season opener, so that's the film they've got... But we're going to run option this week.

Great pic and Amen on knowing "our" own history. The last game in the open North end zone was against Vandy, 1979. We trailed 10-0 at half and Roland James turned it around with a long[80+] yard punt return. I was there, it was great action on "The Hill."

Also, if you ever check some of the bammer boards, they still refer to UT as the school on the Hill. At least they know their history...

The game is Glencoe Crimson Tide vs. Southridge Skyhawks. Our record is 0-1, we started off with a 3-point loss to Aloha but we are still a very talented team, who just made a few too many mistakes. Southridge had a big upset against Jesuit, who is in the state title picture every year but is having a down year this year.

I'd imagine Southridge is picked to win this game, probably by 7-10 points. But they have no idea we are playing the option. So we might be able to take them by suprise. As long as we clean up our game, I think we can make playoffs.

The best team in our league and in the state, though, is probably Beaverton. They have talent everywhere including **** QB recruit to Cal, Kevin Riley who is an EA Elite 11. They also have numerous all-state players.

Ive used "The Hill" as long as i can remember. "Lets get parked so we can get over to the Hill"

On a hallowed hill in Tennessee
Like a beacon shining bright
The stately walls of old UT
Rise glorious to the sight
(refrain)
So here's to you. old Tennessee
Our alma mater true
We pledge in love and harmony
Our loyalty to you

What torches kindled at that flame
Have passed from hand to hand.
What hearts cemented in that name
Bind land to stranger land.

(refrain)
O,ever as we strive to rise
On life's unresting stream
Dear Alma Mater, may our eyes
Be lifted to that gleam.

Actually, this was brought up several years ago when I worked at the athletic dept...the idea then was "The Rock". I guess a reference to both the mountains and the bedrock/limestone the stadium is built on.

Other options
The Hill (leave it as it is!)
The Quarry
The Sinkhole (remember the hole they found when they pulled the turf up?)

If the #%(*$&^ Titans hadn't took "The Coliseum", I think that would be perfect! I don't know of a stadium other than the LA Colisuem that is more reminiscent of the Great Roman Coliseum. Even opposing coaches have made the comparison.

Of course, then we might have the problem of fans getting it confused with the Civic Coliseum downtown :lolabove:

Lately on ESPN and other networks, Neyland Stadium has been called Rocky Top.

"We're on Rocky Top."

Unless they mean Knoxville? Which would be gay. Knoxville is the friggin valley. *burp*
