Martin said right before halftime he had to get these boys to step inside arc and take shots we were takin to many threes. He can put it in their head all but they have to listen. It was a tooth and nail game. No way he coulda benched em a relied on backups. We woulda got blown out. These guys have to listen to coaching and stop playing Rocky Top league ball while on offense. Defense alone will not win. You have to make good shot selections as well and not jack up threes with 20 seconds left on the shot clock.

Anytime you rely on hitting your outside shots to close out a game your taking a risk.

You CAN'T put it all on that 1 call; that's making the assumption that UT would have scored right there, and there's no guarantee they would have.

Even if UT had scored, a 2 would have only tied it while a 3 would have given UT a 1-point lead, with OM getting the ball back. There's no way to say what the final outcome would have been either way, right call or wrong call.

Yes, the call was terrible, and it had the POTENTIAL to change the outcome of the game, but certainly didn't cause UT to lose... 28% from the field did that, along with launching 34 3's, like the OP said.

UF is a 3-point shooting team, and we didn't even take that many today (10-30).

u really can.

Yes, while that blown call was huge, and changed the way the outcome could have possibly went, you can't put it all on that one call. When you shoot 28% and attempt 34 3's in one game, there were plenty of other chances.

We hit 32% of those 3s which is the equivalent of 48% of 2s. We only hit 7 of 30 2s. 34 3s wasn't the problem.

Having said that: we still have no clue how to attack a zone. The 3 point percentage could have been even higher with more inside out stuff.

you would think after 30+ games we would have an answer for a zone. This was not the first time we had faced a zone this year, but it sure looked like it!
FYI Vandy Beat Ole Miss 102-76 in Oxford, less than a month ago (2/16)

Yet, this isn't a 3 point shooting team. Go back and look at what we averaged when we won 8 of 9. We didn't take many.

We got outscored 38-12 in the paint. We lost the game by not having dribble penetration or figuring out the zone.
