We were simply a few missed plays from winning

We shouldn’t ever have to say we missed a few plays where we could have won, if we played good football, we could make mistakes and still win

If you don’t commit stupid penalties, especially running into the kicker, then you win that game. It’s ugly, but you win. Also the Arkansas player with the “delayed” false start that negated the pick six was the most Tennessee thing ever.

“The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win”. That maxim stands the test of time. The team was not ready for this game at all.

Multiple games now where our play calling is very vanilla and predictable which one can only assume to mean CJH doesn't fully trust our offense. Our OL has struggled at times with protection and our WR seemingly don't consistently create separation. Add in the errant throws from Nico which were quite high this game and you get a road loss to Arky.

Bottom line...you have to score TD's to win in the SEC and we aren't doing that enough.

And? Most football games come down to a few plays going one way or the other. The point you seem to be glossing over is that our offense not scoring TD's in SEC play is now a very big thing which is very concerning as we go forward.

1. Nico overthrew Squirrel White on a long pass by about 2 steps which would have been a TD

2. We missed a safety by 1 yard in the first half…if we had that, we could have kicked a field goal at the end

3. The play near the end where Nico bobbled the snap and ended up being a short run by Sampson (we had to burn up a timeout) would have been a long pass play, it looked like we had someone open

This game could have gone either way. We are still on track to make the playoffs.
It goes the other way too. Arkansas could have beaten us pretty bad if a few plays went their way and didn't miss fg's.

Poor gameplan, penalties, o line play, clock management, 3rd down defense and everything else you can think of killed this game for us. Coming into the game, Arky was rated poorly at getting to the QB. Our line made them look like a tier 1 defense. They couldn't even stop them on the last drive sending 3 and we had 5 blocking.

PATHETIC performance all around

No. We were just a few missed plays from losing by 28 points. That game was no where close to what the score is.

A couple plays away from being 17-0 at halftime too. A bad roughing the passer from Green making the score even worse in the 2nd.

I think this is all still comes back to our o line. Nico had no time to make good decisions, TEs are being used for blocking more than yardage, WR don’t have time to get separation. O line is killing us.

Nico consistently taking too much time all season. Inexperience shows against SEC tight windows. Maybe on wr too .

I am not a coach, for certain, but it appeared to me that Ark was playing 3-3-5 most of
the game (similar to Okl) and we should have had sufficient blocking against a 4 or 5 man
rush for most plays. Our OL and TE's could not block a routine 4 or 5 man rush. Our OL is
very overrated and our blocking schemes obviously weren't adjusted over the course of the 2 games.

At this rate we will be looking at a beat down against Ga at the hedges and will be extremely
lucky to keep it within double digits at home against Bama. Hopefully we can take care of Fla
but history does not bear this out. Fla may escape something like 24-21, knowing our history against them.

Lots of parity this year. I wouldn’t count us out but I don’t even think you are an actual Tennessee fan anyway
Because I can see holes in our game that might very well prevent us from getting there? That's taking the orange shades off and being realistic.

Fix your clown comment.

The glaring lack of offense in the first half was the biggest problem and cost us the game. That has to be the worst coaching performance from Heupel since he has been here. Hoping to see improvements.

We’re looking at 8-4. This offense has zero heart and even less leadership. Our o-line is not SEC caliber, and doesn’t seem to care. Way too many penalties and lack of discipline. Our D-line is not able to overcome our secondary. This was really bad football to watch outside our punting game.
I am seriously preparing for a potential 7-5.

It goes both ways.
Arkansas missed a few plays or they would have blowed us out……

Arkansas executed our maxim’s better than we did, period.

If Arkansas played mistake free it would have been a blowout by them. We should have been down 2 touchdowns minimum in the first half. That was one factor that kept me thinking we'd probably end up pulling it out. Usually when one team dominates another in the first half the way Arkansas did us and only leads by 3, the football gods end up making them pay for it.
You can go back and forth with the "If we/they did this ...." forever. The bottom line is, Tennessee did have a very good chance to win the game with a minute left. Among other things, the clock was poorly managed after the pass to Thornton. And Nico has played enough football to know he must get a pass into the end zone on that last play.

.... but they were never going to blow us out. You can do that "missed a few plays" thing with just about any game.

Arkansas left about 17 points on the field the first half. They did everything they could to give this game away.
Yeah, and....... We came out and looked impressive the first two drives of the 2nd half and took a 14-3 lead. Stopped them and if not for a silly running into the punter penalty, had a chance to put the game away. We actually did give it away.

Yep. Say what you want about the rest of the game, but running into the kicker was the dagger.

Yep. Several times Arky had receivers running wide open. QB didn't see them. Our secondary would be a bigger topic of discussion if it weren't for the OL problems. That's still a major weakness.
