We will always play 2nd fiddle to Kirby

I'm not saying Heup hasn't done a great job, he has. I'm saying Kirby has his number and I'll be glad to be proven wrong.
Heupel is going have to do some real soul searching and go against his coaching philosophy to ever have a chance of doing it. If coaching changes aren't made in the off-season it is going to be very similar to the Penn State vs Ohio State situation.

You are indeed a loser, and a loser who doesn’t know ball at that. Please post less.
Whie coaching hasn't been great, you can watch this game and tell the qb looks lost and puts a limit on what the offense can do. I'm a Vols fan first and that means if the team needs better quarterback to be able to beat Georgia, than I am all for it.

Kirby. ****ing Kirby always has answers for us. Always finds a way to score, always finds a way to stop us, always makes the better adjustments at halftime. Its infuriating.

We hung 52 on Nick in '22 and Kirby shut us down. 75 yd TD on 1st play last year at home and Kirby shut us down. No one scored more than 19 on us this year and Kirby hangs 31 with a struggling Carson Beck when they need it most. Will we ever get over the Kirby hump?

Yes we will

He's not wrong though. We just got clowned by a horrible qb, because we couldn't adjust to nothing. Also, they adjusted to us, and shut us down. I'd rather lise to bama and Florida than Georgia, it's frustrating. At work now, griwn men freaking barking since the second half, and you can't argue it. They're right, we're not what we thought we were. Our coaches gotta learn to at least try something different.
The Clown that will be a round 1 pick?

A better Qb, or the Vols are always going to be looking up to Georgia. Coming to the conclusion that Nico is not the answer.
Vols had a pretty good QB in Hooker and lost to Kirby. It's not all on Nico. He isn't the one with the holds, or false starts, dropped balls, non-PI calls.

I persomally thought he played well enough to win tonight. Maybe you disagree. But even so, you have to admit the defense did not play winning football the 2nd half. That and along with unlucky bounces and missed calls, Nico was not in a position to win. O don't put this loss on him or at the QB position. Plenty of other blame to go around.

Nico is not the answer this year and he shouldn’t be expected to be.
He’s not the problem either.
The problem is every year we have a problem.

Kirby isn’t even a good coach and I’ll die on that hill. He just out recruits everyone. What does that say about our guy? I hope we make the playoffs because if we don’t Heup is going to be on the hot seat next year. HEUP IS LITERALLY OUR MARK RICHT

They’ve lost like 1 game (to a team other than bama) in the last 5 years. They’ve on top and have the confidence of a championship team, they still have way more talent than us, they were at home, and they were playing for their season. It was always going to be really tough. That being said, we weren’t going to beat them without taking shots down the field. You can’t dunk and dunk expecting to string a bunch of 15+ play drives together. That’s not a winning formula.

Pat Ryan made that point pn the radio broadcast during the game.

I think the comment" makes better adjustments at halftime" is telling. Kirby and coaches make adjustments at halftime and we don't. We were up on Bama 20-7 at halftime recently and lost after not scoring again

I think the Vols are going to need a QB on the level of Joe Burrows to make up for the position coaching deficiencies.
Joe Burrow is possibly the greatest college quarterback in the past 20+ years. I think that’s a pretty large ask. Also, Burrow was in his fourth season in college when he went crazy w/ Chase, Jefferson, the first round RB and a Joe Moore winning Oline. I actually thought Nico played well last night . He was under control, stayed out of trouble and made plays that saved us yards multiple times. He did these things coming off of a concussion against a team that hasn’t lost a home game in the last 29 games. He’s been a very good player since the second half of the Bama game.

2021 - Heupel was left with what ashes of a program Pruitt left behind. We were under investigation and no recruit wanted to touch us with a 10 foot pole. I think we onlybhad 70 something scholarship players.

Kirby on the other hand was in year 6 of his program, had multiple top 10 finishes, and on his way to winning the National Championship.

2022 - Year 2 of Heupel. Amazing season, but the roster was still depleted. UGA game was on the road. They were reigning national champions on their way to winning a 2nd championship.

2023 - Heupel still building up his roster. This was the first top 15 recruiting class Huepel was able to muster up. Momentum is building, but this season was mostly a bridge year. Milton was the QB and his ceiling was obviously limited. Heupel chose to preserve Nico's RS year. UGA was a top 5 team looking to three peat as National Champions. They would fall short due to one last coaching clinic by Nick Saban.

2024 - Huepel has another top 15 recruiting class. Nico's first year at QB. Georgia looks vulnerable, but game is still on the road with their season on the line.
------------------------
All this to say, Heupel is still building this thing up. Kirby didn't beat Saban until year 6 at Georgia. He inherited a much healthier program than Heupel. Sure, he has had two really good teams (2022 and 2024) that fell short, but those games took place on the road. Even then, Heupel is ahead of schedule. I'm sure its jist a matter of time until he beats Kirby. Lets not help the national media make up boogeyman narratives to hang over the program.
Good post

I agree Nico looked determined to win the game, especially in the first half. If you look at the progression of this season and the critics posted here after games, it's been something each week that need to improve.. Earlier it was the receivers dropping balls, then it was the O-line not giving Nico any time, and last night it was the defense and coaches that cost us the game. We're fortunate to only have 2 losses

The most frustrating thing about this team is its inability to play good ball consistently for 60 minutes . Last night we had our best possession of the season on the opening drive. We did things that we really have failed to do offensively for much of the season. The defensive line for whatever reason had regressed since the UK game. I thought we played the run well last, but getting little to no pressure on Beck was a surprise. I thought Banks could’ve dialed up a few more blitzes after we figured out that bringing 4 guys wasn’t making Beck uncomfortable. I still think this team has the capability of making a little noise in the CFP if we get there. It is late in the year, but I don’t know that we’ve seen a finished product yet. We only have 2 losses, could’ve been more, but the same can be said for Bama, UGA, Ohio State, Oregon, SMU and Miami. This is a bizarre year, people in this board (not meaning you) and on social media need to quit their damn pouting about how “we don’t deserve the playoff” nonsense bc we faltered in Athens. We lost last night, just like the 28 prior teams before us. There’s a lot of stuff that can happen between now and the first weekend in December.

At this point we can't say Heup doesn't have trouble with Sunbelt Billy and Steel Forehead Shane.

They were up 10-0 then went conservative on defense. End of story. Gotta grow a bigger pair to win on the road in the SEC.

Up 10-0 and then we were stopped the following offensive drive. Gotta be cutthroat. You score there and go up 17-0 and some heavy doubt starts creeping into Georgia. But we all know what happened. Once it was clear we couldnt cover their tight ends maybe we should’ve just ran an all out blitz lol.

Damn, the woe is me, loser talk on this forum after losses is just pathetic. If it's "always" going to be that way, why the hell even bother wasting your precious time paying attention enough to whine on a fan forum?

Smart inherited a thriving program with a solid recruiting base that hadn't been able to take that final step, and he learned from the best to ever do it. Still took him 4-5 years to become the juggernaut they are now. Josh took over a dumpster fire with NCAA sanctions and half his team exiting via the portal, and in year 4 has us back in the company of the elite, playing huge games with national implications late in the season.

Georgia is still better, but the gap has closed and we are pounding on the door, and no one knows that better than Kirby and the UGa fan base. If you aren't capable of enjoying this run, why on earth would you even follow the sport?
