Here is what he said. We pulled out the 1-3-1 at the right time. We also run the 2-3 but I am not a big fan of the 2-3 because you can still make direct passes. I been looking for something to give the kids a little change up from the man-to-man. The reason I like the 1-3-1 it that you cannot make a direct pass against it. You have to go over the top! At another point he said that our length makes that extremely difficult to do!

Regarding the backside lob, that is what the guy on the baseline and the guys up front are waiting on! The number of turnovers when Tennessee was in this defense was outstanding. Florida turned it over the first four possessions Tennessee ran it!

That is what they should be waiting on. For some reason JMac's ball man defense is MIA at times this year tho. We could pull him for blowing his assignment, but we have struggled to find points this year without him or Stokes on the floor.

btw: I like zone. I think it is a valuable tool if ran correctly and in the right situation. I just think CCM needed to be running earlier in the season so the team got more acclimated to their lane assignments. Growing pains occur with new defenses. Its just a shame ours occurred so late into CCM's time here.

My sentiments, too. I had been calling for a zone before this year. I like zone at times as well, but we needed to use it earlier. We should have used it against Xavier the first time. They didn't have outside shooters, and Christon was beating guys off the dribble and big dude down low was scoring at will.

But, I don't believe that we would have won the UF game if we had continued to use it. Wilbekin's late shot was well guarded by Richardson. Missouri exploited the backside, and they can hit 3's. We should have used it against Xavier, UK, and A&M. I didn't see the NC State game.

Or just feels like one guy getting dog piled in every thread is getting a bit ridiculous. I don't have a dog in this fight and it's getting old.

well mine was a joke.....sorry if the life of a message board is too stressful for u......he doesnt get piled on and starts most of the conversation with subtle snide comments and then goes into the what did i say act again.

And people let him do it. If you ignore it, he won't do it. He also has a way of responding sarcastically. If people wouldn't always take him literally, then it would be ok. It is getting ridiculous because others are just adding fuel to the fire.

+1

If you watch the game, Martin switched back to the man-to-man when Wilbekin made the three. Richardson is the guy running the baseline in the 1-3-1.

I quoted you but it wasn't entirely directed at you. The lol gave away you were joking. You were just the most convenient to quote on my phone. Lol

Blame it on our perimeter defense, not the coach. The 1-3-1 makes us very vulnerable to the 3 ball, and unfortunately we suck at defending the perimeter. A&M hit 3s, Georgia hit 3s, and Florida hit 3s.

The reality is the coaches are paid professionals, well paid. The results good or bad are squarely on the coach, period.

Yes, I know. Rich was guarding Wilbekin man to man, and he hit back iron on the 3. That didn't lose us the UF game. We missed layups and dunks. I agree it should have been used in other games. I don't agree that it lost us the UF game.

That 5-22 season under Houston was horrible. And that was like his 5th season after Allan had gone.

I fear next season w/o the big three & AB is going to look like Wade's 5th season after Allan left. Then Cuonzo has to be fired, the recruiting has been cuffed due to the fact he's on the hit seat. This leaves us with a weak roster, few recruits in the pipeline, Pearl of to a place like UGA or Alabama, and a rebuilding job for yet another new staff.
This poor dead horse is about obliterated. But, hiring back The Spirit of Alimonies Salon needs to be getting some serious legs about now.

I wonder why Tennessee hasn't tried a 1-3-1?

LOL. I have heard mixed reviews in the past on this defense. One VN expert claims with our players we would be killed by the 3. Most VN experts realize it is pizz poor coaching that allows our team to get beat. Poor defense, miss used time outs, lack of execution, poor game time adjustments, JUST TO NAME A FEW THINGS, OH AND BY THE WAY DID I MENTION PIZZ POOR COACHING, and not the 1-3-1 that gets us beat by teams like TAMU.

For the love of god, BTO doesn't love Cuonzo, he loves the university. His posts are in support of the team, not necessarily the coach. People just make ridiculous accusations about the coach.

Are going to believe you or our own lying eyes?

I didn't mean to indicate that UT would have won the game if they finished with it. Florida hit two free throws and a transition 3. Wilbekin's just iced it. I meant if they had run it the entire half they could have won. It stopped Florida cold!

Patrick and I know that he and maybe you are schills for Martin. Seems that BTO joined the forum right in the middle of Martin's first season. He joined January, 2012, later needed some backup, and you came in. At least you don't have a lifesize photo of Martin on every one of your posts. By the way, whose photo do you promote? There is no other reason that both of you would be demonizing a defense that has been nothing short of spectacular when it was used and then gone missing in action because of the coaching. My God, you have a team with 3, yes 3, ALL SEC players in the starting lineup that can't make the NCAA tournament. I honest to God thought they would win the conference especially when Antonio joined the starters. Look what has happened to him. Going from scoring 19 and 21 against the Vols in 2010-2011 to having a game winner against A & M waved off by a 2 second timeout.
