Should never be "happy" with a performance that ends in a loss. With that said, I'm pretty excited about the future of the program and saw many positives that show we are in the right direction. It was an extremely difficult task to pull off, beating OU, but they played hard and hopefully it was a great experience that will pay off later in the year in SEC play.

Totally happy with the effort and maturity of the young VOLS. We needed that game win, lose or draw. We will never grow playing Austin Peay and UT Chat, not to mention being on TV in prime time has to help with recruiting. Love this team and they seem really happy playing for Butch Jones.

happy with the effort: yes
happy with Worley: for the most part, yes
happy with Hurd: yes
happy with the defense: impressed to say the least based on my expectations of them
happy with the o-line: absolutely not. Horrendous play. Its only a matter of time (short time) before they get Worley seriously injured

happy of where we are going. Not happy with two bone-head plays and a BS no call on a fumble that could have changed the game. Not happy with our easily anticipated play calling in a game where could have let it all hang out.... VERY happy with the fight all these kids had and the fact we never gave up and fought till the end.... we gonna whip someone's azz we aint supposezd too this season.... book it.

Short answer. Poll needs more options so I had to pick no. We saw a lot of good things in that game.

As dumb as I am, I knew we would have to adjust to a very strong and fast defense.
That means Worley getting rid of the ball quick and the backs hitting the gaps quick.

Neither happened.

First of all, not happy we lost. Also, we did not get 100 hung on us.. I didn't think we would anyway. The defense is so much better this year. For the first quarter and a half we had that deer in the headlight look. But our guys hung in there, made some stops, and made the game interesting. IF we had not turned the ball over those 3 times, and scored, it's a tie game. The pick 6 broke our back. But our guys kept coming out and playing hard and showed us what is in store for us. The play calling was limited by their defense. At first they had everything we called snuffed out. They had us outmanned by 30lbs across the line. But as the game went on I think we started playing better than them. And it wasn't their scrubs in there. Like someone mentioned earlier, we went to- to-toe with them in the second half. Our guys didn't give up. Hell, when was the last time we blocked a field goal? Our team grew up Saturday night. They weathered the storm and actually made adjustments in the second half. Never saw that in the Doolittle era. The line blocking will have to improve though. It'll get fixed. I sure of that. I anxiously await the future of Tennessee Football!!!!

I'm largely happy with the team's play. Clearly there are areas of concern (offensive line and some ill advised passes towards the end of the game). A few years back when we played Oregon on the road, we got slaughtered with few positives. Now, I see the talent, the speed, that will allow us to match up in the SEC.

I saw fear and doubt in the Okie players eyes just before the botched fumble call. I think it threw us off track a bit and we paid the price. The only way to beat Top5 and Top10 teams is to play them, learn from our mistakes and build experience. We are on the right track!!!

Agree with you on all points except the O line getting Worley hurt. Yes it's always a possibility and yes they were a disappointment, but look at the matchups. That may be the biggest, most athletic combination of a defensive front we play all year. After the shock they had to have experienced, I think they will be better prepared next time against the possible lines on par with that or close to it.

Not really.....tired of the YOUNG team excuse. This is Tennessee Football, not happy with the performance. Blocking, catching, play calling, punts, KO returns, defensive miscues all need to be executed better. I suggest we stop leaning on this YOUNG TEAM excuse, the players start believing this crap and have an excuse for mediocre play.

I do not think one can be happy with the performance in a lose. I am encouraged. I think that game showed TN has made a ton of progress, with the talent level improved. It showed we have a very good coaching staff and we are very close to competing with the big boys again.

BUTCH said those exact words in his show.. Can't use young team excuse... he is tired of it... fact is we are young... but its not an excuse he said.

Very happy with the defense. The team grew up a lot Saturday. The Sooners are a well coached and talented team that made the breaks to win the game. The pick six everyone is complaining about may have been a bad play call but the linebacker should get credit for making the play. Sanchez made the play on the pick in the corner of the endzone. Very few teams make you pay that high of a price for errors. I think our team will learn from it and be better for it.

This is one of the things I absolutely love about Jones compared to who he replaced. He isnt about excuses and anything less than a win and playing the very best we can is unacceptable.

How many times did you hear the TV announcers say...young team, true freshman, inexperienced, etc. Butch might not use it as an excuse but it seems everyone else is.

Encouraged, yes. I would have been happier if we would have gotten to see them call all the holding penalties against Oklahoma .... We never quit, or gave up. And we could have made this an Alabama or Oregon from last year. But we didn't. We could have had this thing within 10 points in the fourth quarter (barring Worley throws a TD instead of an INT) against the #4 team in the country.

Very happy with the way our team never quit. GBO!!!

Who gives a rip about everyone else? I get what you are saying, but all Im concerned about is what our head man handles it.

I know Butch and coaching staff can handle it, my concern is the players and their constant social media addiction where "young team" stuff is all over the place. Just look at this forum.

Hey folks. Since I'm a new subscriber I can't start a new thread so I thought I would reply here.

The Vols are young, but your team is full of talent. You guys should and will make some noise in the SEC this year and I hope you win the east and of course it would be great if you could beat Bama/LSU/Auburn/aTm for us Sooner fans.

Your team played hard, is very talented and will do well. Best of luck to ya'll and I hope the fans in Norman were hospitable. See you next year at Neyland Stadium.

That becomes less of a concern now that Butch has made it proper to not make "young" an excuse.

If Butch says its not an excuse, I don't think the players will make this an excuse either. This isn't Dooley or Kiffin. The players played their arse off, and played well. They didn't make young an excuse.

It will continue not to be either.

Only playing Bama this year, but a Bama, Ga, Ole Misss, Fl win would be nice, and a plus for the Sooners.
Enjoyed Norman and Sooner fans are very passionate and I'm sure we will return the hospitality next year. If you know what I mean.
