I have long proposed that Stevie go to the Ollie-style granny free throw shot.

Yes, I personally loved listening to a couple hours of hearing his Valentines day plans and how he probably would get to go out to dinner until 8. Just seems like he talks about himself a lot and whines about lack of sleep. Most of his followers have 1 or 2 grueling jobs and families to balance, so listening to a 28ish year old single guy whine about having many listener's dream job is kinda irritating.

You do realize there are other radio stations, right?

It was two guys joking around....geez..... I think Hat might be right, but it is not the team that has thin skin it is many of the people that post here that do.

No, I didn't realize that. Thanks! I live in Lexington, Ky so I have to listen online. I have the Animal and 1180 set up and go back and forth depending on what they discuss, I generally like to stay in the loop on Vol sports, too much to ask? Don't think it is too much to ask to listen to sports on a sports talk show. The other station during the time gives me commentary on pop culture and immature frat boy humor so I prefer Rucker. My other optionOverall, I like Rucker, I just don't think it is asking to much to have them stick to their jobs and not have personal conversations that most people dont care about. It seems I am not the only one. The former DJ who posted seems to agree too. For all John and Jimmy's faults, I haven't heard either discuss their dinner plans for almost a whole show. So, because I want to actually hear about UT sports instead of his Vday plans, I should change the channel, instead of him doing what he is supposed to do? Sounds like those who say UT fans who expect more of Pearl should just go away, instead of having an opinion. Like I said, I like Rucker, but those things are irritating. Thanks for the helpful insight though. Haha.

Ok now it's just getting a little weird. These guys are still going at it. Way too many to post, but I'll share this little gem from Stevie: "Charlie Sheen getting sober #MorePromisingThanWesRuckersMediaCareer."

and to follow up from an earlier post: Rucker's intro today upon going on air "I am Wes Rucker and I am tired, got 3 and a half hours sleep". Just after I commented and how much he complains about sleep deprivation from his job. haha

Does Rucker not get that being buddy-buddy with the players undermines his journalistic objectivity even worse than if he were an admitted fan of the team?

Rucker gets under my skin. Dude talks about not being a fan too much. He goes out of his way to proclaim his neutrality even when the situation doesn't call for it. Makes for awkward moments on the radio.

Caller: What did you think about the rebounding?
Wes: Well first let me say that I don't actively root for the vols. Saying that, they did pretty darn good on the boards.

like wtf...
Excellent point, he should answer the question as posed and not put an idiotic disclaimer on everything.

Better yet tell everybody who he does pull for....

Anyone that was around UT reading the Beacon circa 2003-2004 knows that he is a huge Vol fan. He's overcompensating for the sake of journalistic integrity.

It is funny how many of you want "journalistic objectivity" for a sports show guy, but drink in the partisan dribble coming from national news media. Haha, so funny it is sad. As long as the radio station keeps Wes, it seems they are okay with the job he is doing. If you don't like, don't listen.

I've never seen a program with skin as thin as UT's.

Anybody who would think this is more than playful bantering is looking for gossip...My grandmother might like the drama but otherwise its all in fun...and funny...as athletes are wont to do.....

Kram's arguments are very much on point, but their effectiveness is undermined to a certain extent because Kram doesn't do a very good job of disguising his disdain for Ali. He obviously didn't like the man. And so his basic point that the romanticized historical view of Ali is a complete farce -- an argument that has a lot of merit and that really did need to be made...by somebody -- doesn't hit with the same force that it would have if delivered from a more seemingly neutral author.

My favorite part of that book, actually.

Your point is valid, but since I tend to share his view of Ali, the book didn't bother me at all.

Agree. Would Rucker have retweeted it if it was a real insult?

There is no such thing as journalistic objectivity. It's all a silly farce.

That would be pretty funny. I wonder why his form is so jacked up now? Maybe cause he worked out too much cause it wasnt tha way in high school. Anyway nice game last night minus the free throws

I don't disagree at all, but considering what pains he goes to to protest that he's not a Vol fan, Rucker apparently does.

Did you see him play in high school? Can't believe he can't shoot free throws better. It very well could be that his working out to gain strength has taken away flexibility. I've often wondered if he was that bad in high school.

Yeah and to actually believe he could knock a 3 pt shot every now and then is what baffles me. Bulking up is the only thing that makes sense to me.
