Wesley Walker enters the portal

I'd imagine most of us knew this was coming. The process continues. Of course he's injured so its not like he was playing in the bowl game. All things will become new....in the spring (and afterwards). Wish him well.

On that front, who is playing in our secondary for the bowl game? Who's left?

I don't necessarily think its a bad thing but it is odd that almost the entire starting secondary is leaving.

I almost wonder with some of the kids we've gotten from the portal if more are on the way and some of these guys are seeing the writing on the wall.

The portal and the younger ones either coming in (like Boo) or already here.

Next man up for some of the other spots IMO. It's been the weakness of our defense for the last two years. Let some of the younger guys who are hungry get some reps in the bowl game for next season.

Austin Price said that he couldn't transfer until he gets his degree in May. So is he going to finish his degree at UT before leaving, or go to another school to finish it, and then transfer in the summer???

This is college football in 2023/24. High schoolers now sign with a team to try it out to see if they like it. If not, hit the portal. After a year or two, maybe the coach is riding you a little too hard, maybe you have to compete a little too much for playing time, or maybe your girlfriend broke up with you and you just need a change of atmosphere. Solution? Hit the portal.

Will be interesting to see these guys in 5-7 years with real jobs and they want to hit the job market portal after the boss doesn’t promote them after 3 weeks.

Any other student can transfer as they please, why should an athlete be treated differently?

Ugh.

It's crazy how well we are doing at literally every other position this offseason and how poorly we're doing at secondary. Hope we have some young guys (and our portal guys) can step up, but difficult to see how losing this much top-line depth in a single off-season can be good. Even if the new players we bring in are higher-quality, probably going to take a few seasons to see the impact.

How does that work then? He’s in the portal now, but won’t transfer until spring?? If that’s the case, he’s basically elected to quit playing football until next years fall camp, since he won’t be participating in the bowl. Seems like something is amiss here, or he just doesn’t want to be part of the team anymore.
