Wesley Walker enters the portal

How does that work then? He’s in the portal now, but won’t transfer until spring?? If that’s the case, he’s basically elected to quit playing football until next years fall camp, since he won’t be participating in the bowl. Seems like something is amiss here, or he just doesn’t want to be part of the team anymore.
Doesn't want to be a part or isn't wanted to be a part?

Assuming he quit or UT quit on him is probably something we won't know for sure.

These days it's not that uncommon for a kid to decide to leave.

In previous years it wasn't uncommon for a school to "encourage" a kid to leave.

EVERY SINGLE YEAR guys leave and fans are like it's cause better players are coming! We should be the 72 dolphins by now. What's alarming is why is the entire secondary leaving? Is it the players or Martinez? Now that all the players have left we'll find out this year which one it was. I'm leaning Martinez

Two thoughts on this. Number one they see who is being recruited and who is transferring and they know the writing is on the wall. Number two they probably got fussed at every single week in the film room and likely grew tired of it

Could be, it's just unusual to see almost an entire position group leaving at once.

With this many leaving the secondary, I assume Heupel had a "come to Jesus" meeting with the coaches AND the players. It's not really Deion numbers, but the D didn't meet expectations and that's going to change one way or another.

It certainly looks like Heupel decided "it's not the coach, it's the players" and is cleaning house.

It could be a number of things, PLaying time being reduced because younger guys behind them are better, It could be that they are looking for a better NIL deal and TN doesnt want to pay them what they want based on performance. They may not like the scheme they are in. Who knows.

What do we think Juedy Lally is going to do? If he hits the portal we will have a 100% new secondary for 2024
Lally is interesting because in my mind he is not a bad corner. However, if you look at the guys they are bringing in both in portal and high school recruits they seem to be more focused on guys that can do man coverage and press. Lally would probably be fine in press but he is more a zone guy than man. This is 100% my opinion and not based on any facts outside of my eyes. So take it with a grain of salt.

I’m sure they are going to test that secondary early. I know their passing game is awful, but going against walk-ons they could have some success.
Indeed. I was getting worried at first when a couple DB's have left but now it's nearly all of them. If you're Iowa with a greatly anemic offense, why not try to just go with the passing game against largely inexperienced guys? Their defense is really good too. The ingredients are there for a potential embarrassment, I hope it doesn't bake too well....

I am excited for next year with all the new talent coming in but I am about to panic over the Bowl Game. Who is going to play exactly? The Waterboy?

Soooo

WMartinez has another year to coach them up to prove he wasn't the problem.

I'm okay with that.

I have said from the beginning that we are watching the total destruction of college football. I totally stick with that statement as much as I hate to say it. After watching the only game I love for about 65 years.

I think I have two years of eligibility left.
.

Great post, when taken in the context of today's college football fan

Two more years of this revolving door madness and many fans' interest and commitment might go away!

I think you're on to something.
The secondary was not good and that is small incentive for any business to make a hire for NIL.
No one really jumped out. No name and reputation, no deal. or a very small one.

It’s been mentioned multiple times on 99.1 that both Baron and Walker weren’t returning to UT, regardless of anything else. Anyone know why?

The narrative that he wouldn’t have a spot isn’t true, Walker was/is the best S on the team.
It’s a mystery to me. Walker transferred here from Ga Tech. Seemed to really like it. I can’t see Walker getting recruited over, but I’m just a casual fan so what do I know.
