What’s so frustrating about this season…

We aren't an SEC championship coaching staff.

Depends... it seems like the bar has raised with Saban and Smart. There are 12 programs in the SEC right now NOT producing Championship calibur teams, not just Tennessee.

Fulmer and Spurrier are likely not making it to Atlanta in current SEC either.

However, Saban is about to leave Alabama IMO and Smart's Georgia team cannot stay on top forever.

We are a middle of the pack SEC team…we have middle of the pack talent and the results through 10 games bear that out. We have a very promising QB learning the system and some promising WRs for next year as well as several really good RBs. IMO, our biggest issue on O isn’t that Joe Milton is a middle of the pack QB, it’s that the OL is average at best. They certainly commit too many penalties and against good defensive fronts they can’t open holes or protect. We have several highly rated OL prospects in this class but need some portal help for next year.

Is that it was always going to go this way, but didn’t have to. We all saw Milton play prior to this year and he just can’t consistently hit wideopen deep shots. Nor does he consistently make intelligent/savvy plays. We’ve seen him running out of bounds with no time on the clock, throwing the ball away on fourth down, and sliding shot of the 1st down line.

Some of us (myself included) convinced ourselves, that if anybody can turn a “JG-esc”quarterback into an all American, it’s hypo. But the truth is, nobody can’t mold a guy that doesn’t have that it factor into a stud qb.

Now, you might say the Mizzou loss isn’t on Milton look at his stats bla bla. But I beg to differ. Heupel’s offense isn’t designed to be a smash mouth/run between the tackles all day offense. It’s designed to take constant deep shots down the middle of the field. But after the uf loss and a couple of close games (that included tons of horrible missed throws)…Heupel had to go to the run heavy offense because Milton can’t hit a high enough percentage of those throws. However, mizzou sold out to stop the run by loading the box and playing a lot of man to man coverages. We couldn’t take advantage.

Milton isn’t capable of putting the team on his back and going looking for dinner. And you can’t beat really good teams without that capability. He even got away from running against Mizzou which has helped the offense tremendously over the latter part of the season. When he did run he was often timid and indecisive which prevented him from picking up the available yardage.

The positive is that I believe Milton will be the only qb heupel put out on the field during his time here that doesn’t end up putting up monster numbers. But this year sucks. And it didn’t have to…
Not exactly sure what your point is but Milton is keeping the seat warm so Nico can develop. I believe it would have been a mistake to throw Nico into the fire with this particular team. Milton has a lot of flaws but he knows the O and generally manages it well. He has made a contribution to the run game by managing things well.

Milton is a better and faster decision maker than JG was. That surrounded by Bama or UGA level talent would have been enough. UT still needs a QB that can make plays and not just play a role. Milton's accuracy and touch have improved. He still doesn't "see", read, and anticipate like HH did. He is a lot more like JG. Both worked hard to develop. Neither has the innate second nature ability to "feel" coverage.

There are no guarantees but in limited time Nico seems to have some of that intuitive, abstract mentality.

We all hoped that we would see the high end of Milton's potential. While he's improved and is a better QB than he was at UF... he is still a lot more potential than realized. Someone will draft him and try to develop that incredible physical ability. Working full time as just a football player... who knows?

QB is far from the only problem this team has. I still have not bought Banks. There are too many times like this past weekend when he just gets outcoached. The O was killed by mistakes. OTOH, Mizzou called plays on O like they were listening to Banks' headset and were given his game plan in advance. He was predictable and slow to adjust.

I agree with most of this, I think our defense plays a lot to keep teams from scoring and does fairly well at that but they are not taking into account the damage of teams staying on the field for 8-9 min drives on offense. We can't get off the field on third downs until that team gets a shorter field in the red zone. However, it really hurts our game effort like this past Saturday were Tennessee had the ball for only 3 plays in the first quarter. That is not normal for most teams.

I’m a little disappointed that Heupel seems to be a little too much of a player’s coach. Got to have a happy balance. Like being a boss, you can’t be a buddy. That leads to unmotivated employees
Unfortunately with the portal you have to be a bit more cognizant of players’ feelings because the rules have made it so easy to walk with no negative consequences

Oh, I agree. Nick and Kirby have figured out the balance somehow. But on the flip side, “feelings” are getting to be too much of a thing. If they are going to be that fragile, I’d say they don’t have the mettle anyway.

My biggest disappointment has been living amongst bammers and their smugness. I've said all season what the rumor down here is, and not being a conspiracy type person, I've been living and seeing exactly what I've been hearing. For those who don't know what I"m talking about. The rumor here in Alabama is that Stankey was unhappy with the NCAA's penalty of Tennessee for the investigation. We are being punished on the field. Again, is this possible? Can this really happen? After taping and rewatching EVERY game I see so many "non called" holds against us, and so many "iffy" calls against us, there is no doubt the scales are not balanced. Tyler Barron has been crippled all year by holds and his stats show it. Pearson has suffered also. Even at Neyland we haven't received many favorable calls. I'm sick of it. I officiated at high school and some small college games for many years. THis year has been hard to watch. I know, I know, people say officials don't lose games, but momentum sways can go a long way. I was at the Alabama game, and the quick touchdown by Bama with TWO huge non called holds, and the fiasco with the following kick off changed the game. IT happens. GO VOLS I want to beat Georgia so bad ( I also have a Georgia fan as a coworker amongst all the bammers and auburn), but the SEC will not let it happen. I will be glad to come back and eat my words though.

Please explain to everyone what Joe could have done to prevent Mo's offense from running up and down the field on us all. day. long????????? Please explain to everyone what Joe could have done to prevent the inevitable offensive holding call on us every time we crossed the 50 yard line?????? Did you even WATCH the game? I do believe Joe spent about 40 minutes of the 1 hour of playing time SITTING ON THE BENCH!!!! This is just so wrong and so dumb.

Talked to my Bulldog buddy, actually texted, he said all summer they were talking about how loud Neyland would be but now they think you will be able to hear a pin drop. They said after the Mizzo beatdown every Vol has given up and realized SEC will always belong to the big Dogs and Vols goal is to be an 8-win team. He said everyone should be quiet when the Dogs have the ball like the same courteousy Dogs showed for the Vols last year.
Talking to bulldog fans damages your I.Q. It's like sniffing glue.

Middle of pack recruiting within the SEC = middle of the pack SEC record. The only exception to this will be to find a generational QB.
