What’s up with Clemson???

They started pulling kids from all over the country after they won that first title, and really after the second national title. That isn't a surprise. Alabama does it too. Did Tua commit there because Tuscaloosa is an awesome town?

Clemson's success has been built on elite offensive skill player play (QB/RB/WRs), a stout defense, and playing in the ACC. It hasn't been a fluke, although not being in the SEC has definitely helped.
Tuscaloosa is not a metropolis or amazing town by any means but it’s about 8x as big as Clemson, literally. Clemson has about 4 bars, a handful of restaurants and you drive 20 miles to Anderson or Easley to get to a Wal Mart (at least you did 12 years ago). Market Square, size wise, is on par with the entire downtown College Avenue in Clemson. I get the allure of winning and playing for a winner and it’s not to be discounted. They pulled 5 kids (four of whom were 4-5*) from Orlando and/or Tampa in addition to Christian Wilkins from Connecticut, in one class, before ever having a playoff appearance.

It's their Oline, and dabo will not be hired at alabama. They have too many options. It will some hard nosed SOB that keeps control of what they have for the next decade.

Christian Wilkins was leaving his geographic region for somewhere no matter where he went, given there is no big football school remotely close to where he is from.

Take a look at his 2013 and 2014 classes for example...it's all kids from the Carolinas and Georgia. They really started to expand geographically after the titles.

The same Tony Elliott that turned us down for the head coaching job? It looks like we may have dodged a bullet on that one.
He was cheering us on to lure him away. I don't follow Clemson and though he was nuts at the time.

It’s not like they don’t have players but I think Tennessee would beat their ass right now. As much success as they’ve been having, you just don’t fall off like this. They’ve got something either internal going on or some bad chemistry. I’d love to know.

They still play good defense but their OL is weak and it all starts there on offense. They’ve not been impressive any game this year & a matchup with Pitt doesn’t look good for them. Pitt has a good DL and will score some points.

I almost feel like that opening game against Georgia took something out of them and they never recovered. We can sit here here all day and talk about how "terrible" they are but they went toe to toe with Georgia for 4 quarters, held their offense to 3 points, and only lost because of a pick 6. And Georgia just might be the best team in the country. So let's pump the brakes on the whole "we could possibly beat them" nonsense. That's still a very talented football team with a stout defense. Their issues pretty much lie with their QB and their O-Line. I dont know if it's a confidence issue, Youth and inexperience, or if GA beat them up so badly physically and mentally and they haven't recovered. However I think we're being a bit premature in thinking the wheels have completely fallen off. They could still finish at 10-2, win the ACC, and go to a major bowl. Still not a shabby season. I do agree that DJU is no Trever Lawrence or Deshaun Watson but he could still develop into a serviceable QB.

It isn't simply that they lost those guys - they lost DeShaun Watson and a bunch of others after they won their first title and didn't really miss a beat (and Kelly Bryant wasn't even an elite player). It really boils down to the fact that they don't have an elite QB this year. Football, especially the college game, is so QB-centric. Clemson had back-to-back Heisman-caliber QBs and everybody, myself included, assumed DJU was in that same category. He is not, or at least not yet.

The only program that consistently replaces elite players with other elite players year after year is Alabama.
They “missed a beat” with Bryant. They were highly beatable, but the ACC was particularly weak that season and they still got beat by Syracuse. One loss got them into the playoffs and they didn’t belong on the field against Bama. It’s why two seasons later when the usual suspect were bemoaning us not pursuing Bryant that I didn’t see the angst.

Who does though? Nobody was beating them last year and unless Georgia can get them in the SECCG, nobody's beating them this year either. There's only so much elite talent to go around and every year, one or two teams has the lion's share, 3 or 4 have a fair amount, and the rest of college football is simply playing a different game. Bama right now is on a level that I have never seen before in college football.

They had competed with them in two previous matchups…losing the first at the very end and winning the second. Then the very next season with Lawrence, they obliterated them. We’re not talking about BAMA’S current level.

Realistically, who is there do you think? It Saban says he’s done at the end of the year, who if not Dabo? I have no suggestions, I’m genuinely curious when I look at the current coaching landscape.

I’m not going to pump the brakes on the idea that I think we could possibly beat Clemson. Why would I do that after what we’ve seen from them the past few weeks? They squeaked by a BC opponent that got by Mizzou in OT. They had to recover an onside kick to finish off GT. This same GT team got absolutely destroyed a week later by Pitt, who we should’ve beaten . I realize that the transitive property doesn’t exist in football, but that’s 2 pretty good indicators that tell me we could play with them and beat them.

They're accustomed to our recruiting castoffs. UT didn't have the opportunity to screw up a stud QB recruitment this year.

With his AD, OC, and DC gone and his buyout puny (unless it's Bama,) I wonder if Dabo ditches his church funding and starts worshipping at the Swoosh.

That Nike guy wants a trophy......bad. If Aranda won't budge from Baylor and Chip Kelly is deemed too much of a retread, Dabo might get a call he can't refuse.
