What an ignorant statement by ESPNs Ivan Maisel

I don't think all-time winning percentage is that big of a deal in most players minds. I doubt many recruits would account any school history except for the recent ten years or so.

But lawgator has a point, on the national scene, Tennessee for some reason is viewed as just a small notch below Miami, FSU, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.

Thanks, Milo. I can't explain it either. Certainly UT deserves to be on that level. Just isn't for some reason. Heck, Notre Dame ought to be kicked off that list. I'd like to think the same of FSU. Indeed, FSU's program to me seems on the decline in a lot of respects whereas UT has, for lack of a better word, arrived.

I doubt it... So his 14-season streak of winning 10+ games is over. FSU can still be considered a powerhouse, just on a bit of a slip right now. If he goes another three seasons without hitting the 10-win mark, then maybe FSU fans can start getting a little bit concerned.

Says on your sig that you are in Oregon. The news down here in Orlando coming out of FSU is pretty much all bad. Their starting QB (who was of questionable ability to begin with) acts weird and skips a drug test, gets suspended, and then is found in the middle of the street in his underwear calling himself "God." So, everyone except some self-proclaimed expert out of nowhere figures he has a drug problem (duh) but he is an assistant coach's kid and lo and behold the "expert" says he has Lyme Disease. Half the team is on probation. The other half are betting on cockroach races. The offensive coordinator is so loathed he has to go around town with a bodyguard. The defensive secondary is being held together right now with kite string and chewing gum. And Saint Bobby's game headphones have been placed on permanent mute since the 2001 season. They tried three field goals in the fall scrimmage and missed all three.

Bowden needs to retire now if they want to save that program. Take their lumps like we did with Zook and then rebuild.

You heard it here first. Miami wins at FSU by at least three touchdowns.

Well now, I'm picking Miami over FSU too. But if I want a news source on FSU's program, a Gator is not exactly the first person I look to. :p

Not that they will, but these problems could be fixed up in a couple years to return to the program it was not too long ago. They haven't been sub-par for too long at the moment, that's why they're on a slip.

I'm the first to acknowledge his accomplishments. But he is way past his prime and the team is out of control. Like Paterno, Bowden needs to get out of the way. Would prefer he do it on top and gracefully, for the sake of the sport. But doesn't look like that is in the cards.

I'll pass on Mr. Bowden, but I'd love to have seen Joe Pa. go out on top.

I'm of a firm belief that his great legacy has been tarnished.

I'll be surprised if they ever rebound under him.

I agree. The difference in the two situations is that the game has literally passed J.P. by. He cannot recruit as well and at this point just doesn't get it, which is that speed is what the college game is all about at this point. His approach is simply no longer effective.

Bowden, on the other hand, can still recruit. Its just that the program and particularly the kids have gotten away from him. He does not have the same firm grasp on them he once did. You could see it coming for awhile, starting with Deon Sanders not going to any classes for his last year, then the theft of shoes, the check fraud issues, the gambling scandals, etc. Then he has his son as off. coordinator and they are ready to run that guy out on a rail.

The thing is, J.P. does not have the fast kids, the thugs, needed to be competitive nowadays. Bowden does, but he can't control them at all. As a consequence, FSU is sliding to more and more losses, greater internal dissension, and booster criticism. If he gets out now, there is still a good chance to nab a fine coach. But the longer he stays and the greater the turmoil he leaves behind him, the harder it will be to get a top knotch guy to come in and try to rebuild that program.

Bowden has never demanded a lot of respect with his lack of discipline.

It's not like he has had a single year of misfortune, similar to Fulmer's last 12 months, but he's had year after year of bad behavior from players.

When you have one bad run you can call it an aberration. When you have year after year of it, it becomes a tradition.
