What are the best charities out there to donate to?

We donate to Knox Area Rescue Ministries, St Jude Children’s, Eagle Boy’s Ranch and a small ministry, Harvest Prison Ministries, my wife’s uncle started from the ground up. We’ve pretty much capped it at these since they rarely send us a mailing and we know the most of the money goes to the operation of helping others. Donated to some others for a while, but we seem to get unlimited mailings constantly even though we were already donating on a regular basis. I know they have to have a marketing budget, but I feel like if we have donated consistently, maybe only send us something once or twice a year to say “hey, thanks. Hope you will continue to support us.” At this point we know where to find you. Otherwise, it concerns me how much of the donations are going for mailings/marketing instead of directly to help the people it’s intended for.

We are looking at registration for our charity as a nonprofit. Anyone on here gone through that process? TLDR wife and I give a scholarship to local 1st gen college student every year. Just writing a kid a check outta my checking but want to grow the fund
