What are the candidates views on gas?

Many things are already taking a hit. Bonnaroo's ticket sales are down about 30,000 from 75,000. That is about $5,000,000 in lost revenue. For the largest/best musical festival in the world it is a big deal. Not to mention the lost revenue for good people of Manchester. This is all due to the gas prices.
That is a bold statement, my friend.

But he is going to help you pay for your skyrocketing energy costs AND other bills. What a guy!

tax the oil companies

force automakers to build even higher mileage vehicles, like the Smart 4-2, which no one in their right mind would buy because they're simply not safe on American roads.

I bet his next step is to limit or impose further qualifications on who can own a car and who can't.

Well in all fairness, if the government is going to help you pay your bills they might as well be able to tell you how to live.

taxing the oil companies isn't going accomplish anything. it's a simple: supply and demand. China and India have increased their use oil 50x since mid nineties. we haven't built any new refineries or dug any new wells. China is working with Cuba and Mexico to drill oil from the gulf and our governments wants to sue opec. apparently they think humans are more important than a bird or fish.

if the oil companies are taxed, they are going to pass that tax on to the consumer, just like every business does. to matters worse, your 401k, savings and mutual funds will be hit because the oil companies have less money to give back to investors. but again, liberals think birds and fish are more important than humans.

my understandin is that Obama is all for Beano use, even to the point of providing it free for everyone worldwide. However, he'd never personally use something so widely used. He reserves Beano Platinum for himself.
Yea but McCain wants to make all beano camo and send it to other countrys to kill other gas prohibiting pills. Then take a picture by a mans butt and say mission accomplished!

You may be interested to know that the exact same measure was used from 1980 to 1988. It is called a profit windfall tax.

While the government is going to determine what an acceptable profit level is for the oil companies can they go ahead and set an acceptable limit on the amount of taxes they collect.

Looking at the inflation adjusted gas prices, the price per gallon tumbled.

You have a cause and effect problem. Gas prices went down because oil prices went down. There is no evidence that the WFPT had any effect current (then) oil prices.

There is plenty of evidence that the years under the WFPT yielded far less revenue than expected and most importantly reduced domestic production and development to a point where our dependence on foreign sources of oil climbed. In other words, we're still paying for that bit of tax legislation.

Obama's plan is short term pandering and will do nothing to address the price problem in the long term or reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Interesting info.

I actually thought that BHO's energy plan was heavily weighted to influence R&D of alternative energy sources.

I'll take that bet.

you'll lose because the Obamassiah is a socialist and if he can spin that individual ownership of a car isn't good for the salvation of the collective, the kool aid drinkers are going to march in lockstep and demand that car ownership be restricted.

and yes, I know that there are already restrictions on car ownership based on age, infirmity, financial factors, etc. Perhaps a better way of putting it would be that the Obamassiah would seek to restrict what kind of car you can buy. No more large SUV's for single people or parents with only 2 kids. No more V8 powered cars without special permits and severely limited driving privileges.

Yesterday he said the proceeds (assuming their are some) will go to provide relief for those struggling with gas prices. This idea is a disaster.

The Senate bill claims to direct spending towards alternative sources.

And is totally lacking in the idea of opening drilling in places like ANWAR. How about we refer toANWR as an "alternative source" for energy for now on. Perhaps that would make people feel better about it.
