What are we doing with BJ Edwards?

If the talking heads on the radio were correct, if he enters less than 25% of the season's games, he can red shirt. As of last week, he has played in 8.

There is speculation that basketball could modify the participation rule to something similar to the new football rule. And Barnes has been on the rules committee so he might know something that we don’t. But the current NCAA rule in place in basketball is if a player participated in any game, even for one second, then their redshirt option is gone.

Maybe if someone posts it for a 34th time, people will understand.

Not panicking a bit over him. I think he'll be perfectly fine, but don't understand the wasted year.

Wasted how? Basketball is a 1 & done sport still, there is honestly 0 value in RS anyone unless they want to do it themselves. (DJ & Freddie for examples)

I don’t think it’s quite as easy as you suggest. Nevertheless, I also don’t believe Barnes does that. When he plays early in the season, the expectation is that he’s not redshirting. No staff would ever guarantee it.
Que D.J. Jefferson.

It appears his redshirt has been burned. I'm not sure why since we only play him 2 minutes when we're up by 30. I dont get the logic.
It is one of the few disappointing things to a tremendous season to this juncture. It became apparent at Mississippi State that Barnes had no trust in him to spell ZZ even for a minute or two. It's a little puzzling because he certainly looks the part. Hope he sticks it out.

I don't think his participation on a team of this caliber learning on the bench is "wasted" unless you think he was a sure one and done player. Edwards was never going to be that. It used to be that a year or two learning and improving were prerequisites for playing time in a junior or senior year. Yea, I know, old timer.

""However, due to an injury and my mental health being a priority, after long discussions and talks with my coaches, family and mentors I have decided the best course of action will be for me to sit out the remainder of the season to fully invest in healing mentally as well as physically."

The article states he was injured early, only played 7 games, and he says due to his injury as the first words out of his mouth.
Conflicting accounts. Someone is lying.

“He hasn't played in the last month due to personal reasons, with coach Jeff Capel saying last month his absence was not related to either academics nor an injury.”

It’s the same difference, just terminology. Medical redshirt, medical hardship. Who gives a crap. You get an extra season of eligibility.

The difference is that a redshirt is gone as soon as a player is on the floor. You said that that is 100% wrong.

A medical hardship waiver has separate eligibility requirements. They are NOT the same thing. 100%.

You are suggesting that TN should put BJ on some sort of injured list and get an extra year. That’s not how it works.

Hypothetically, if someone gets injured and granted an extra year of eligibility, what are they called? Are they called a Medical Hardship Freshman or a Redshirt Freshman?

You asked for an example and I gave you one. Have fun being miserable 😂

Uhhh...you don't know me if you think I am miserable. But, you gave an example that hasn't even been granted yet. The point is that what you suggest is actually not all that common unless there is a legitimate injury.

They are called the pronoun of their choosing.

There are also blue shirts, gray shirts, and green shirts.

You asked for an example. I gave you one. Take it or leave it. Carry on.

I can only go by the words out of his own mouth as to his reason for seeking the redshirt and the first one was him saying he was injured.
