688 Club in Atlanta started out as Rose’s Cantina, a Mexican restaurant in midtown Atlanta that was haven to the growing punk crowd. The proprietress began to let local punk bands play late at night. Soon, the location changed hands, and the little dive at 688 Spring Street became the 688 Club. Rather than wallow in loud three chord thrash rock and mosh pits, the local scene morphed into new wave performance art. One of my favorite bands of this period was the Swimming Pool Qs.

On the far left is Doreen. I got to know her around 1979-80. She became road manager for The Brains.
