What Bristol will look like as a CFB stadium

I have been to quit a few races at Bristol, I really don't think seeing is going to be a problem. The only track I have been to that you can see the whole track and infield from any seat.

I want to be at this game..its history. Take some binoculars and throw in an earbud for radio play by play...get rowdy and have fun. Everyone needs to stop crying about "i'm gonna be too far from the field wa wa wa wa" (That was a baby crying noise in case you didn't understand) People who arent' Vol or Hokie fans are hatin' because their team isn't playing in this game. That being said, "Go Vols"

Is it good to take revenue away from Neyland? How many will motels in Bristol accommodate? Logistics problems for vendors or lost revenue? Lost revenue for motels and eateries in Knoxville.

I'm fairly certain if the Tri Cities can accommodate the races at Bristol, the Tri can accommodate this game...

Let's see. It accommodates 160 thousand for a race and they travel further than Knoxville. Won't be a problem.

You realize UT will get $4-6 million for this game, don't you?

Were you upset when UT played NCSU last year?

So, 160,000 people stay in motels in Bristol for one or two races a year? Those rooms are mostly empty the rest of the year? You guarantee that many will show in Bristol? How much does UT get at home? Wow, they'll set a record attendance and you'll be there. You can tell your grandchildren. Why isn't Neyland overflowing with 60k begging for tickets every game? I guess a lot of those 160k don't care about the Vols or UT. Maybe they just care about a gimmick.

I'm pretty sure VT will have their fair share of fans there.

Out of the 160,000 that go to the races a large # are locals and a large amount bring their campers and RVs and essentially tailgate for a week. It also isn't like the northeast Tennesseans just ignore UT football. There are thousands upon thousands of vols fans back home (I'm a Johnson City native). Twenty minutes away (aka just across the TN/VA border) there are thousands of thousands upon thousands of VT fans. There are even Tennessee fans living in SW Virginia and VT fans living in Northeast Tennessee. It really is the center of the two schools. Thousands of fans will be willing to make the two even three hour trek to see the game, just to get right back in their vehicle and drive all the way back. That phenomenon is quite common.

Also there are tons of conventions and other business actions that keep the hotels doing just fine back home in the non race weeks.

160k every week? 30 years ago I was public relations manager for Chattanooga. I-75 is the busiest Interstate. The Tri-cities are not in the same class as Chattanooga for tourist, business and convention activity. The Bristol area needs those RVs to handle the races. How about an empty field on the plateau for the UT-Vandy game if half-way works that good. Maybe start looking for a venue for UT-UK. It might happen one off as a gimmick but I've enjoyed Neyland for over 60 years.

The last Bristol race I attended I doubt even broke 100k fans. There were places you could have thrown a grenade and not hit anyone with the shrapnel

The record for Bristol was 165,000. That was the record. Not every race managed that. as for what some people are touting as the largest attendance for a game or a sport, Bristol ranks 17th. Indianapolis gets 400,000. Le Mans gets 235,000. Maybe we could play Perdue at the Indy Speedway.

Lot of damn whining in this thread...this game is all about the money and national notoriety for the schools, and for the fans it's all about the tailgaiting and being a part of history.

bad views, blah blah, bad hotels blah blah...please. Shut up and buy a ticket for history.

Lol. Did you not even read the prior post? I've never looked at an economic study for the races, but I'd say the figures aren't even 65k for people actually staying in hotels for the races. But between Wellmont, MSHA and most notably Eastman, lots of random business ventures keep the local hotels doing just fine.

Not only that.

Buy a ticket for your school. Support the players. By 2016 we will be competing for the east and very well could be contenders for the NC.

And if I have to spend 200 bucks a ticket and drive 12 hours one way to do it I will.

Go vols

Facts and certainties:

There are 500,000 people within a 50 mile radius of the Tricities. This game will be a sellout. Two storied schools will battle it out and fans will have a great time tailgating and cheering for their teams.

Oh and one more.......for the next three years we will hear about poor sight lines and how this is a bad decision to proceed from "negative nancies"

Go Vols!

I don't think it will sellout, I'm thinking somewhere between 115-135k fans. We just need to break Michigans record
