What Card in Your Wallet?

I've had that done to me as well, or credit limit reduced

I was kind of upset it happened, I didn't get a warning or anything. I opened a letter one day from the company and it basically said, "your so and so account has been closed due to inactivity".

Didn't read the whole thread but I like the Amazon card - 3% rewards on purchases on Amazon. Since I buy a ton from them it's a really good deal (I think it's a Chase product)

AMEX Delta Reserve is primary. Once we have maximized annual benefits we move to Capital One Venture.

So do I. Amazon is my go to place to shop.

Chase Disney Visa Premier is my primary card. 2% on gas, groceries, and restaurants. 1% on everything else. 6 months 0% on Disney trip when put on the card.

Not the best card out there, but great for families that enjoy Trips to Disney.

Agree on the Amazon card. You can also opt for 0% financing if you want to spread a larger purchase out over time.

Salie mae barclay master card is better: 5% up to $750/month for bookstores (which includes amazon)

looking for card with no foreign transaction fee, good rewards for travel, high % cashback for restaurants

obviously good introduction offer

This card has come in handy on several occasions......

Chase Sapphire is pretty good for what you described. I had it for about 4 years while I was traveling a lot.

Do people who have multiple cards have any rules on which card they should use? I have 2 (Visa and MC) but really only use 1 frequently (MC). The rewards are about the same for both of my cards. Just curious how others use their cards.

I actively use 3. The CRAs like if you use 3 to 4 cards regularly. I can't remember the last time I used cash for anything. I put everything on my cards and pay the balances before they close statements.

So it's better to be roughly the same usage amount for each card for credit rating purposes? I'm probably 90:10 over my 2 cards so I need to equalize that better.

The highest you should be on any card is <30% utilization.........at the time of the monthly statement cutoff. 90% will hold your credit score down even if your overall CC utilization is less than that. Keeping a card under 30 consistently will give you a better score and also you will see more CL increases. If you have questions or issues with anything credit, I would highly suggest you go over to the myfico forums (sorry mods if this is against tos)

I like myfico. Credit Karma is also a useful tool. It gives you a good idea of the components that make up your score and to what degree.

While I agree that CK gives a ballpark idea where you are, don't go by their scores. Those FAKOS are normally anywhere from 20-100 points off your real score.

Agreed. I get scores from several sources (Amex, Cap1, Discover) and all use different models. Experian, Trans Union and Equifax all have their own things going on. Amex (Equifax) and Discover (TransUnion) are spot on for their respective scores. Cap1 just went to some random model. All can help in tracking your situation though.

Agree on the 30% on cards too, though overall matters more with regards to score. I'll sometimes go to a high % but pay it off before the statement drops. You get the bonus of high usage and points/miles without the ding on the score.

There is good info out there for the asking. It's a matter of finding what is relevant to your situation and going from there. With all the 0% intro offers and points offers available, you can make money using credit these days.
