What did Fergusons uncle say?

All he said was the freshmen qbs have more upside than Worley and peterman. I'd say he is right,if not then ferguson and Dobbs will be the biggest recruiting flops in ut history. Worley has no upside and peterman had a mental breakdown when he got in the game,so I think he has got a valid point.

I agree they do have more up side but there has to be some reason Butch feels they are not ready.

I have the lowest data plan with AT&T and I listen to a least an hour a day during the week while driving home in Dallas traffic. I have never went over my plan. I listen on wifi at home and anywhere I can because that doesnt count toward your data plan. If you start to get close they will text you to say you have used 80% of your monthly and then you can monitor. Hope this helps.:good!:

I get 3gb a month with AT&T. I don't stream And I hit right at my 3gb every month. The lowest is 300mb, so I don't know how you do it. I've found that streaming will just tear through data.

Better yet, how many FBS football games has he coached, or how many D1 quarterbacks has he evaluated?

Probably none. However, I am sure he has watched every game since Riley got to UT. And I would say he saw a good percentage, if not all of Riley's High School games. And I am sure, though he is admittedly biased, the uncle honestly believes his nephew can do a better job than Worley or Peterman.

Regardless of how any family member or fan feels is irrelevant. If Dobbs or Freguson are better options, they have to prove it to the coaches.

I think the exact same result would have occurred regardless of who was in that first quarter. did you even see how awful the OLine was playing?

Here's what the Uncle said (at least in part):

Fergy's Uncle Larry on The Sports Animal: said:
Just to be honest, after seeing everything I’ve seen, I think both of the young quarterbacks are better than the two we’ve seen. I think when we see either one of those guys come in, I think we’re going to see a huge difference in the offense. I think we’ve got two great quarterbacks sitting in the wings. Obviously, I have my opinion about which one I’d like to see, but I’ve just not been impressed by the two we’ve seen so far.

I think if you were there at the open practice...out of the 39-plus thousand people, I would say 35,000 or more would say those young guys were more impressive than the older two. So, I’m looking forward to seeing that happen. I don’t know when that will be.

While he doesn't say it outright, the Uncle pretty much calls out Worley and Peterman as being obviously inferior since the open practice, says both Dobbs and Ferguson are superior and that 90 percent of the people who attended open practice thought the same thing (that the freshmen were clearly superior), and questions the coaching staff's judgement (how could 35,000 people see what he saw while the coaching staff doesn't??). It's a pretty passive aggressive attack against Worley, Peterman, and the coaching staff and not the sort of thing a family member should be doing no matter how much they believe in their nephew. He probably didn't intend half of what is implied there but it is the kind of the thing the press can and DID run wild with.

Contrast that with how well Fergy's dad handles it (he doesn't throw anyone under the bus either directly or indirectly. Neither the press nor anyone else could read much more into his statements than support for his son and a little bit a politicking on his behalf but not anymore than any normal parent would if asked):

Fergy's Father on TSR: said:
Yeah, he’s ready to go. He keeps telling me every day he’s hoping by the fourth game, that’s what he’s been telling me, cause I guess that’s when Peyton (Manning) took over in his third or fourth game. He wants to play. How I look at it, it’s gonna be tough for any of the four this weekend with that defense they got.

I would hate for him or Dobbs or even Peterman to get in and just, you know, get destroyed and then of course the fanbase will just shred you, so it’s kind of unfair. And in Worley’s case, I think it’s unfair that he’s already a junior, never redshirted and people are already starting to talk beyond him as a junior.

It’s a tough thing. It’s a tough thing as a parent because you want your kid to get a chance. You don’t want him to get thrown to the wolves and the fanbase, you know just like anybody, would want to protect. That’s why I was a little bit reluctant to talk on the radio, cause all of these fan sites are just—they can be brutal. They either love you or hate you.

Here's a part of Jones' response to a media question about public outcry by family members regarding playing time:

Jones on family members and playing time: said:
You know, that’s something that I’ll address with (the players). We continue to educate our players and our families, and we’ve only been here for a short period of time, but, you know, let’s just say that’s part of our Vol For Life program, and that’s a work in progress, and I’ll handle that.

CBJ doesn't appear to have been happy about being asked to address the issue (I don't know of coach who would be).

Jones smirked, paused, then looked at the reporter: "You always ask the difficult questions," he said with a smile.

CBJ also said the fact that Dobbs didn't travel to Florida meant nothing.

CBJ on who will backup Worley: said:
Both freshmen quarterbacks will get ample amount of repetitions, and we have to do a great job of getting them ready to play mentally and then physically as well. Just like anything in our program, they’re going to have to earn their spot.

Full story here (it's BR but the quotes come from what said so they're direct/sourced quotes.

Agree 100 percent...if one of them isn't betterthan Worely or Peterman at this point they would have to be epic busts....will be very disspointed if Ferguson doesn't get any snaps against S Alabama...and i am still scratching m head as to why they didn't get any action in the first 2 games....Peterman is cearly not even backup material and Worely while improving doesn't scare anyone.

Ferguson's uncle is completely out of line!!! He indicates he watched the scrimmage and came away that both Freshmen QB's were better than Worley or Peterman.

Maybe they are GOING to be better. But right now they are probably learning and would make major mistakes in games.

In my opinion his uncle should have kept his mouth shut. Because this does absolutely no good for the University of Tennessee. All this will do is put this in the media and they are trying to make it as in-flamed as possible for THEIR RATINGS.

Let's all get together and try to destroy Worley so he plays a horrible game against South Alabama. This wil ensure that we will have Ferguson or Dobbs starting against Georgia. Hell let's boo Worley as soon as he walks on the field maybe we can make it so bad that Butch Jones will annouce on Monday after South Alabama that Ferguson and Dobbs are co-#1 and AJ Johnson is #3 and take away Worley's scholarship.

Uncle Fergie should keep is fat mouth shut on this!!! And Fergie's Dad ought to let him know that he had no business calling a radio show about this.

How has this help Riley?

One other thing about Riley, he is far from proving that he is Peyton!!

I don't what the big deal is here. I thought it was an avuncular duty to criticize the coaches.

This. And it doesn't help Riley. It just feeds the media. His father gave a good interview but his uncle came in and ruined the good work his father had done by saying what he said. I understand Uncle's can be proud of their nephews but he should've either kept his mouth shut or interviewed the way Don did. Don was sympathetic to all of the QBs and what they go through. He's a parent and has enough empathy to know that ripping these kids not only hurts them but also hurts their parents -- that's a good lesson for all us fans AND a lesson the uncle should've listened to as well.

I love parents and family being involved and have no problems with them speaking to the press about their kid (they should be proud!) but don't do it by saying your kid's better than that kid. It doesn't help anyone and at worst it can backfire not only in the press but also on the kid you're rallying for.

Also, keep in mind that your kid is now 18+ years old and learning to be an adult. He's in college and wants to try new things, to grow, to prove things on his own, to explore his independence, so support him but give him the freedom to grow up that he needs.

Damn. Guess Ferguson better transfer, he'll never see the field now that his uncle made these comments.

I don't think you can hold it against Ferguson, personally. It's more something that could end up embarrassing him than anything else if players choose to tease him for having the "Barbara Dooley of uncles" but nothing he can't live down through hard work. It's not his fault his uncle went too far.
