I think we can all agree that Ainge is a better player than he showed against UAB... We've all seen it

Yeah, against some real top notch pass defenses... *cough*

Oh, well HOMER, let's compare it to Ainge against ALL his opponents.

*Remember, Erik has played in 4 more games than Rick's 5 1/2.*

Erik Ainge pass complete to Jayson Swain for 21 yards to the ND44

Erik Ainge pass complete to David Holbert for 21 yards to the SC0
Erik Ainge pass complete to Chris Hannon for 24 yards to the SC0
Erik Ainge pass complete to Chris Brown for 20 yards to the SC0

Erik Ainge pass complete to Jayson Swain for 37 yards to the UA25
Erik Ainge pass complete to CJ Fayton for 20 yards to the UT38

Erik Ainge pass complete to Tony Brown for 26 yards to the UM2
Erik Ainge pass complete to Robert Meachem for 23 yards to the UT44
Erik Ainge pass complete to Robert Meachem for 20 yards to the UM36
Erik Ainge pass complete to Tony Brown for 23 yards to the UM17
Erik Ainge pass complete to Robert Meachem for 39 yards to the UM30
Erik Ainge pass complete to Bret Smith for 30 yards to the UM0

Erik Ainge pass complete to Derrick Tinsley for 39 yards to the UGA42
Erik Ainge pass complete to Bret Smith for 22 yards to the UGA0
Erik Ainge pass complete to Tony Brown for 22 yards to the 50 yardline
Erik Ainge pass complete to Jayson Swain for 21 yards to the UGA37

Erik Ainge pass complete to Derrick Tinsley for 21 yards to the AU39
Erik Ainge pass complete to C.J. Fayton for 21 yards to the UT38

Erik Ainge pass complete to Bret Smith for 60 yards to the LT0
Erik Ainge pass complete to Jayson Swain for 42 yards to the LT34
Erik Ainge pass complete to Tony Brown for 21 yards to the LT35

Erik Ainge pass complete to Bret Smith for 23 yards to the UF0
Erik Ainge pass complete to Tony Brown for 32 yards to the UF15
Erik Ainge pass complete to Chris Hannon for 21 yards to the UF40

Erik Ainge pass complete to CJ Fayton for 42 yards to the UNLV0

That's a total of 25. Which is quite a bit more than Clausen. But, Erik's four more games is almost double what Rick has played in. I estimate if Rick wuld have been in four more, that he might have had a total of 20-21 plays of 20+ yards. I never said though that Clausen was a deep threat. I merely wanted to show you all that Clausen IS capable of making plays, and that there is no sense is letting your homerism or whatever reason that you like one of these guys, to override the fact that they BOTH are good QBs and they BOTH can and HAVE gotton the job done.

Neither one is an absolute world beater though, and there is no reason to pretend that a win here or a win there has made either guy as good as Peyton or Tee.

BOTH guys will continue to get better. However, if someone thinks that a win last year makes Erik more prepared to go to Gainesville and Baton Rouge and win games THIS season, you're crazy.

I'm not being a homer, I fully support CPF's decision to start Clausen against Florida.

I'm just sick of all the people that are dismissing Ainge so easily because of a bad game. Not saying you are, but I have seen a lot of people do it.

Well, thats all cool.

I just want everyone to know how good BOTH these guys are, and that in reality, they are a lot closer than a lot of people think, and that depending on the situation, Clausen is better. (Which isn't crazy considering his EXPIERENCE and maturity.)

Ainge is an athletic beast. He just needs the mental side of the possition, and he will be scary good.

That blows my mind. It was obvious that Clausen moved the offense, but I had no idea that ALL of his drives went at least 50 yards.

Milo, Ainge is a freaking second year player. While no one here is wanting to kick him off the team, he has had a few good games and a few bad games. He has proved he has a strong arm and COULD be a very talented player. I don't think we should go naming a street after him yet. Ainge showed promise in his first year but needs to make a lot of improvement in learning more of the offense this year. Whether or not he has/can do that remains to be seen.

So while I don't agree with slamming the kid or writing him off, lets also be realistic and not peg him as an NFL first rounder quite yet.

I wasn't... Heck, most of his friends back here don't even think he's got what it takes to make it to the NFL. I'm not sure either way but I don't put him that highly.

Here are the 2 things holding Ainge back
1. Mechanics
2. Mental side of the game

Ainge has the as much talent as Manning, but the difference is Manning worked exhaustingly hard at the mental part of the game, Ainge hasn't.

I seriously doubt Ainge has ever had to really work for his positions at basketball or football, nothing against him its just came easy to him until college and now that he's having to really work for something he's having some (for lack of a better phrase) sticker shock. If he can throw it off rededicate himself to the mental side of the game and the willingness to master the little things he will lead UT. If he cannot we all know where that will lead.
