What do we know about Virginia?

Given the political environment in Charlottesville over the past several years, recruiting players, especially African Americans, is difficult at best.

Now hear me out. I think the more coveted athletes (long offer list), can be persuaded by other schools to avoid Charlottesville. As a Virginia recruiter, I think that would be hard to overcome. Look at the people that do sign. Most are 3 star or less recruits with unimpressive offer lists. There are exceptions of course. It's not the only reason, but it has to have at least some impact.

What a disaster Tony Elliot would have been here

If Tony Elliot had come here, I would have had more leisure time to enjoy the finer things in life like TikTok and Facebook rather than spending time reading about the last 20 years of a cursed Tennessee football team filled with comparisons of Tony Elliot to Butch Jones and Volnation polls asking who is the worst Tennessee football coach of all time.

Virginia has one of the best overall athletic programs in the country. It has won national championships in men's basketball, baseball,
men and women's tennis (multiple times), women's swimming (multiple times), lacrosse, excellent at soccer. The university's weakest program,
easily, is football.

Lol Charlottesville is incredibly woke, the school is inundated with critical theories to the point where they have lowered their SAT requirements for minorities and are giving away scholarships to anyone who can prove that they had slave ancestors that helped build the school.

I also doubt hardly any current recruits know about the alt right tiki torch March.

Hell, knowing any Gen z kids I doubt they've even heard of it, because most young people have absolutely no concept of time or history.

It's not about the school policies and whatnot. I'm talking about the controversy over the confederate statues, white supremacy, etc. I think an opposing recruiter could use that as scare tactics.
I've been to Charlottesville a couple of times. Was treated great by the locals. A lot of history there.

Yeah I know what you mean.

Maybe they used that in 2017? But that was six years ago.

I wouldn't look past UVA.
They are coming off a life / program changing event and will be fueled by pure emotion and adrenaline starting out.
If our Defense doesn't step in that first half and put in a couple of stops or hold them to field goals it could look ugly.

That said, emotion and adrenaline only take you so far and we should put them away in the second half of the 3rd quarter.
Nico might get a few reps late in the 4th.

I think in the end we will probably allow Virginia a courtesy touchdown in the name of sportsmanship.
I think that is the most interesting question. Will Tennessee's defense, expecting to play a lot of youngsters, set as their goal to shut out Virginia?

It would be the ideal goal to set now, so that your third stringers are focused on nailing down assignments and technique, anticipating that they will play maybe a quarter, and be the ones responsible for attaining a team goal.

At least, that's the way this armchair coach would play it.
------
If there's a plus for the VA offense, it will be that the skill positions will be manned this season by guys who chose to play in this offense.

Their fans should have bought tickets and planned to travel to this game. Nashville is a great tourist town with excellent restaurants, sights/museums, and it could be Virginia's only "bowl game experience" for the rest of this decade.

I’m a Vol and UVA grad. They are not good. Maybe a little defense, but Elliott’s offense was not a good mix for Armstrong. I’m glad he left for NC State, for his sake. Losing Bronco was a shock for the program. I was hoping Anthony Poindexter was going to be hired. Can’t put my finger on why, but I don’t see Elliott lasting long there, I just don’t think he is the right fit. Oh for the days of George Welsh! Vols will win big, very big.

On another note, to say Charlottesville is incredibly woke, is the understatement of the year!

What do we know about Virginia?

The commonwealth was the home of eight presidents, including four of the nation's first five: William Henry Harrison, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Zachary Taylor, John Tyler, George Washington and Woodrow Wilson.:)

We know WGWTFA!!!

GO VOLS

Seriously though...they have a .500 team in the ACC. We should win this game by several scores and Nico should be QB for at least the 4th quarter. No orange glasses required. Granted, its the 1st game...and defense tends to beat offense early in the season. We should score 40+ on them though regardless.
