Good thread. Here's a quick look at the 2-deep and others. Thoughts?

DE- Corey Vereen/ Lewis/ Henderson
DT- Saulsberry/ Jason Carr/ Mosley
DT- Danny O’Brien/ Williams
DE- Jordan Williams/ Hendrix/ Mixon/ Thomas

LB- Chris Weatherd/ JRM/ Bryant
LB- AJ Johnson/ Bynum/ Mouhon/ Harris
LB- Curt Maggitt/ Bates/ Berry

S- Brian Randolph/ McNeil
S- Kelly/ McDowell
CB- Cameron Sutton/ Williams/ Berry
CB- Riyahd Jones/ Gaulden/ Mosley
Nickel - Justin Coleman/ Payne/ Foreman

I look for the FR to get more and more playing time as the season progresses.

If we don't get JRM on the field more, I will be shocked. He actually looks fast on the field. I might play him over Weatherd.

I would also rather not start true freshman on opening day, sorry Kelly fans.

They are on the way my friend. Trust me.

Kelly - Berry Twins - Payne - Moseley

I agree but where is the beef up front, is it again wait till next year that's getting old when you are 52, one of these days next year is not coming.:cray:

I agree you trade mistakes for mistakes but if there aren't appreciably more I'd throw the FR in and hope it can help him be better in the future

just depends on how ready they end up being - if 1 is as ready as Cam then he starts no question - but those don't come around every year

The staff showed a disappointing respect for seniority this year. It may have been to allow more physical development for the younger guys (I hope). Hopefully going forward the best players play.

I still think Coleman will start. If he doesn't, I suspect he will be overtaken by someone currently on the team and not a newcomer.

285 pounds on a 6'5 frame ain't that big ..

Boy needs to be 300 plus to move lineman in this league in the middle. Dt's see double teams all the time.

6'8 350 lb mccullers - that's a big guy, but not much of a football player.

Gaulden is going to be the starting Nickel on day 1

I hope he's that good.... but you would be amazed at how many times I have seen this said about newcomers and then see it come nowhere close to being true. It is a big jump from HS to the SEC. Freshmen will see PT for UT out of necessity.

But it usually isn't wise to discount the talent, experience, and development head start the returning players have. Swafford did some nice things. I can't speak to his overall athleticism but he found a way on to the field and several scholarship players were unable to knock him off. If he's hitting the weight room and working on his speed and agility... he'll be a tougher out than you might think. If not, you could easily see Coleman as nickel or sliding to nickel and being replaced by Jones at CB when they go nickel.

I think the corner opposite Sutton is a complete toss up. We know nothing about how good Riyahd is or isn't. And we have no way to know whether we have a "Sutton" like player coming in this class. If we do I could see him starting. If by a miracle we pull Adoree, it's Sutton and Adoree at the corner, Coleman at the Nickel, Rabdolph at Safety, and I think the other Safety goes to best available.

I hope Maggit plays better than Maymon has. Obviously, the two are in different sports, but both had to miss a year for an injury they were slow to recover from.

Everyone always seems to... if he comes back healthy, they won't after the season starts. Before the injury, he was easily the most impressive DL they had.

Agreed, him and Jordan will break out this year. I think Jordan Williams was redshirted this year with Smith, Walls, Miller, and Vereen ( super stud ) were doing decent.

This looks a lot like what I expect. The only difference is that I think Gaulden and Evan Berry should compete at Nickel. I think Mosely will redshirt because of his size.

If we pull Jackson he starts opposite Sutton.

I don't think we will get him, but if we do, I think you're probably right. I hope Riyahd Jones is a stud, but something tells me he becomes one of those players that never really plays but everyone likes. He's had a rough road already, but I anticipate he will be a great spokesman for our university.

I think UT's only hope of pulling Jackson will be to promise him he plays O... and that would NOT be a bad thing.

Every year... people underestimate the advantage returnees have coupling their talent with experience and development... and overestimate the impact of freshmen.

It is my opinion that Lane will start for the first time in his UT career this fall. I was assured by a notable poster here that he was a "day one" starter over Poole who had just had a 1000 yd season on a bad team. The guys we were excited about last year and the year before didn't become "untalented" after they signed. They just weren't ready. They've been preparing and some of them will be ready this fall.

Don't underestimate how difficult the transition is for most HS players OR how valuable college level development and S&C is to even talented players.

You're coming to my side now. I don't have many freshmen starting next year at all. The redshirt freshmen will play.

I think I've probably been there. I anticipate some Fr in the two deep out of necessity but do not think any will start. Blair, Pearson, and Weatherd have a shot... in that order of likelihood. IMHO, Weatherd is not a starter if AJ returns and maybe not if he doesn't. I think JRM will earn that spot opposite Maggitt. I liked everything I saw him do this year. He's a heat seeking missile.

Jordan Williams played in all 12 games. Just wasn't effective....18 total tackles, 1.5 sacks.
