low taxes, private property, security without being intrusive, and NO, absolutely NO socialized medicine

depends on how you view "freedom". some people would view it as the absence of responsibility, looking to the government to provide everything for them. I know that's not how you view freedom, but that's how "freedom" is being redefined, especially by the left.

By the left? Are you serious?

Better roads, better schools, more rational growth patterns, refusal to allow corporate greed to dictate policy.

Sure...you're talking about China and the USSR. Both great examples of how a country should be run. :eek:k:

I'm sorry, but I thought you just hinted towards wanting corporations to run your life..

How does a corporation run YOUR life? You are free to enterprise and make your way in life. You are free to frequent the doctor(s) of your choice and they are motivated by being able to charge a fair rate for their services. If you made $100K per year, would you think it fair to pay half of your wealth to social programs geared toward equalizing everyone? Did you go to the school of your choosing and study all those years only to support someone who farted around so they could milk you later and leech on socialist programs?

Its socialist to want better schools?

Wait, J.Quest, do you automatically equate more funding for schools with socialism? Is someone who advocates more funding for public education a socialist?

When they write legislations? That's not running your life and if you think the Right are the only ones that introduce new legislation you're sadly mistaken. You live in a free democratic society founded on the principles of the Constitution and in order for it to flex and be dynamic, legislation is introduced by the very folks you voted for of your own free will.

No, I don't...I thought you were implying the opposite. More funding can go both both ways. Conservatives can appreciate capitalism (big company) and at the same time want more funding for education and the like...agreed?

So big corporations don't pay lobbyist to influence legislation? Interesting.

you're going in circles and I still fail to see how this is "running your life". At this moment, if you wanted to, you could get a license, make up a company name and file it with the state, get a tax id number, and open up OWB's hot dog stand. I bet if you made $100K in the first year in profits, we aren't having this conversation.

Actually he's not going in circles. I don't agree with him but I can understand why OWB feels that way. The line becomes a grey area everyone operates in when you get to that level of politics and money.

Both the right and left advocate freedom yet support policies that reduce it.

The left wants government out of the bedroom/private lives yet proposes "no spanking" laws, supports heavy regulation of business, and overall attempts to mandate equality via governmental intervention.

The right wants government out of business yet often proposes laws which intrude into personal tastes, expression, behavior --- e.g. legislating morality.

Personally, I want generally capitalist view of the economy with appropriate safety nets and a strong national defense/foreign policy. The government should keep me safe but otherwise get out of the way.
