What does Texas A&M bring to the SEC? They arent recently dominant in football. Is it basketball? What division would they be in?

I thought it would get more traffic in the football thread. Maybe even more relative.

They are like another Vandy, maybe
They really won't be ever a real threat to an SEC team, but maybe this will do something for their recruiting

I don't like having to travel to Texas to play an SEC game

I am excited bout A&M, they bring tradition and and opportunity for Tennessee to play in Texas, another state with rich recruiting fields, and maybe opportunity to pick up a few more good Texas players.... (ie Santos)

More competition, harder games, and will make it even tougher to recruit in Texas

Just another team in an already crowded and ultra competitive SEC. I hate everything about this.

This is all the same stuff you heard 20 years ago when the SEC last expanded.

They have a pretend army, which, combined with the Volunteers of Tennessee, just might be enough to defend the South from some Mexican college. For a little while. RIP Davy Crockett. :(

Mainly they deliver a TV market of approx. 6 mil people (Houston) and probably exposure in D-FW, San Antonio, etc.

The opportunity for the SEC to re-negotiate the TV deal with ESPN for more $$.

...and supposedly a very cool venue/gameday atmosphere for a football game.

I love it....and I'm interested to see who else comes along to the SEC party.

Throw out all of your preconceived ideas of what and where the SEC is. That is the stone ages.

This is nothing less than each conference grabbing it's full share of cash with the networks by creating a new footprint into unchartered major metro markets and pushing the 98 pound weaklings out of the national championship picture.

You will have the SEC, Big Ten, Pac Ten, and a mixture of the Big East and ACC - all featuring 16 teams and forming a super NCAA, from which the national champion will come from.

Texas A&M allows the SEC to set a footprint in Texas, enabling the SEC teams to earn a much bigger pot of gold. That is why VPI (VaTech) makes sense. They would allow the SEC to expand it's footprint into the metro D.C. and Baltimore markets. It would make sense to add UNC and or Duke from North Carolina and possibly Missouri, because it adds the St. Louis, KC and fringes of the Chicago media markets.

I don't understand how us playing a game in front of Texas recruits every other year (or as often as we get them in our rotation) would make it more difficult to recruit in the state of Texas. The same reason would mean that we would get more recruits out of Florida if we didn't play them? Just asking?

I 50/50 about A&M and others joining the SEC.

A&M is a good football program. They will bring a large fan base, tradition, and new recruiting pipelines. It is obvious that we wanted TX and Oklahoma, but TX isn't going to happen. A&M is the next best thing in Texas.

Also, A&M has a rivalry with Arkansas that goes back a ways.

IF we are going to add teams, I would be happy with A&M and Oklahoma... as well as FL St and Clemson. Clemson, so we can watch them get destroyed week in and week out... Vandy2.0

Bingo.

The SEC's TV deal certainly doesn't look as awesome as it did this time last year. Adding Texas TV markets would be huge.

Football-wise, Oklahoma or FSU or even Clemson would be the best 14th team, but I don't have much doubt that Virginia Tech would be the team the SEC would love to add the most. I lived in DC for awhile and it's crawling with Hokie alumni. If they managed to expand the conference TV footprint to include Dallas, Houston, and DC, it's insane to imagine the new TV deal they could negotiate.

Recently dominant in football? So by that logic, we were a dynasty in the 90's. They bring nothing besides the Texas tv market.

Just moved to Va. Beach. Seems to be more Tech fans here than UVA fans.

Ok - here's what I think would be awesome. Comments welcome
A&M join the SEC as well as either Oklahoma or Mizzou, and instead of East - West divisions, there would be North and South. Might look like this:

NORTH:

Oklahoma/Mizzou
Arkansas
Vandy
Tenn
Kentucky
Georgia
Alabama

SOUTH:

A&M
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St
Auburn
Florida
South Carolina
