They rank 8th in Pass Defense.

However, their competition ranks 85th, 75th, 82nd, 80th, 24th, and 99th in passing offense. We rank 8th.

They rank 2nd in Net Punting.

After all, practice makes perfect...and they get a lot of practice. For those expecting Hefney to break one in this game, though, not likely.

They rank 22nd in Passes Intercepted/

This could be a cause of concern after last week's game. However, since Meachem should have a good five yards on whoever is covering him, I think Ainge's room for error is increased.

The only thing that worries me is Syvelle Newton. UT doesn't seem to do well defending mobile QBs. However, I don't think he'll make enough of a difference to match our offensive output.

SC's offense could cause some problems for us with Syvelle Newton running around. They bear little resemblance to the team that was taking the field in September.

I am just glad they only have one Syvelle Newton on the field.

There is not a truer comment about our defense against mobile QBs. I really hope the Chief uses our line in this game to contain Newton as opposed to place great pressure on him.

I couldn't agree more. Blitzing a guy like that could yield big plays if people get to far upfield and lost containment.

And yet, Chavis (who I think does a great job scheming against everything else) continues to blitz scramblers and in the process provides ample running lanes for them.

We really haven't faced too many QBs this year who are running threats from the pocket.

I think Newton will make a lot of plays but I think we will be able to cause a few turnovers also and with our offense I think we will seal the deal late.

given that newton is mobile, and cory boyd is a pretty good back and they have some speed at WR...i would expect to see a lot of running from SC. probalby some option here and there cause we've been sporadic against it at best all season.

and while i wont' discount the competition they've played, Newton has been surprisingly accurate in the passing game.

I agree with GAVol...their offense today is not the offense that played MSU and UGA...

they'll cause us some problems i'm sure. but again, i just can't see them lining up and beating us with out us really helping them.

penalties that keep SC drives going or that stop drives of our own and turnovers would be SC's biggest allie.

they will be fired up early...home crows will be all jacked up with GAme day, emotions will be running high early. I spect a pretty feirce Defensive effort early on from SC, trying to put pressure on Ainge and force a turnover or something early on.

the 1st qtr will be very interesting...

Everyone has raised some good points here especially regarding the option and our D; although we have not faced a mobile qb for a while I wouldn't expect SC to run the option a lot in this game...too much room for error. That style of offense requires a lot of practice and perfect execution on every play.

That being said I think our D has grown up quite a bit since that AF game and will be fine. Like jake said - limit the drive killing penalties and TO's and we should be good. There is no reason we shouldn't win this game ....but it is Spurrier and that is enough to make me nervous.

i don't think they will come out and run the option as their offense, but i would expect to see some plays added to the gameplan...it's hard to ignore our struggles against it, and with a mobile qb, i think we'll see a few tries at it...

someone said it earlier...containment is the key to Newton. cut off the edges and drive him to the middle so the LB's can gobble 'em up.

if we are blowing off the ball with a a straight up pass rush blitz, that's when he could make plays.

even if SC does well on offense, and this game gets in to a shootout...i still like our chances. and i really wouldn't be surprised if that did happen. Espeically if we are able to stop the run early on.

Newton is probably like UAB QB from last year.I just hope our guys are up and ready to rush!

Syvelle Newton is a very dangerous QB. He is not even the typical running QB. He has been at QB, RB, and WR. He can deal out on the perimeter or even inside against the LB. He is a player that makes people miss. To make things worse, he can throw with pretty good accuracy. I dont know how well our defense will play but I know, the SC offense will move the ball.

Their pass defense stat is going to take a hit tomorrow night with Ainge.

They will improve their Net Punting average.

Little concern here after 1st half of Bama game. But am sure Ainge was schooled heavily on a couple of fundamentals this week by Cut. Think he'll be fine.

and that's great and all...and is certainly something that we have all noticed.

but we also noticed that the only games he SC has done all that, and won, was against......who have y'all played again?

You did it against Auburn no doubt...and still lost.

i'd venture to say that SC will probably move the ball Saturday night. So long as it nets the same result you had against the only other quality team you've played this year.

The one guy that equally stresses me out besides newton... is cory boyd.. this guy is awesome in my opinion he scares me to death!

Yes, Boyd is a player. Since he stepped onto campus he has brought with him an attitude that stands out. He is a big game player and he has the talent to back the attitude. If the blocking is there, he will make plays.

Exactly. Im much less worried about their defense after seeing they havent beaten a winning team all year.

Boyd, from what i've seen is a guy that plays up and down to the competition. One game he looks like a one man wrecking crew and the next you wonder where he went.

i fully expect him to run very hard and with a lot of heart Saturday night.
