What happened on the play Musket fumbled the hand off to the RB?

Bad call. Should have been a scoop and score. We just didn’t lose our minds about it because the game was already well in hand. It’s not like a strip sack called back for “forward progress”.

Edit: Looked very much like a botched hand off to me, but 🤷‍♂️.
Don’t matter botched or not it’s forward so it’s labeled a incomplete pass.

In the replay, it shows that the ball completely left Musket's hands and went forward before touching the RB and then hitting the ground.

This makes it an incomplete forward pass. The call was correct.

Had Musket still been touching the ball as it hit the RB, then it would have been a botched handoff and fumble.

It was clearly an incomplete forward pass. The call was 100% correct.

That type of play shouldn’t be called a pass. Remember that Peyton broke the NFL TD single season mark with a crap play like that. That accomplishment is tainted in my opinion

Off topic .... I don't remember the play that you are referencing, but even if you take away one TD pass (or 4) from Peyton Manning's 2013 season, he is still the single season passing TD record holder over Brady and Mahomes.

.... and you don't remember the play correctly, anyway. I just watched it on YouTube. Peyton Manning's 51st TD pass of the 2013 season was against Houston. It was an over the shoulder pass to TE Julius Thomas in the corner of the end zone from 25 yards out.

Do not confuse the fantasy with facts.

I believe the record was 50 and his 50th TD was a shovel “pass”. It shouldn’t be recorded as a pass on any level of football. It takes no skill

Wrong on all counts. His TDs in that game, 48, 49, 50 and 51 were 36 yards to D Thomas, 10 yards to Decker, 20 yards to Decker, and 25 yards to Julius Thomas. None were shovel passes.

That's not accurate either.

Peyton Manning's 50th TD Pass of the 2013 season is from the 18:37 to the 19:00 minute mark of the YouTube video posted up above. It was a 20 Yard TD Pass to WR Eric Decker.

Peyton Manning's 51st TD Pass of the 2013 season is from the 20:30 to the 21:00 minute mark of the YouTube video posted up above. It was a 25 Yard TD Pass to TE Julius Thomas.

They were both over the shoulder throws, as you can see.

I’m not throwing shade at the play, it can be really effective. Just don’t call it a pass.

Guess my memory wasn’t correct on Manning’s 50th or record tie TD

I think you’re right that even if the forward pass rule applies, it should count as a rushing attempt. Kind of like in the NFL, a sack is technically a rushing attempt, but the yardage is deducted from the passing stats.
