What has happened to RB Tom Smith?

yeah i always had high hopes for him people say he ran like a bull in highschool

I saw every yard Tom gained in high school and he is a hard runner, but he is neither the fastest nor the biggest guy. He's more of a tweener both in terms of speed and power. I just hope Tom will continue working hard and can stay healthy. I know that catching passes is not the primary responsibility for an RB, but Tom has very soft hands and is a good receiver out of the backfield. I really hope Tom can get some significant playing time soon, but he's going to have to stay healthy and catch a break or two.

Obviously no one watched the o&w game. The dude ran people over, he isn't going anywhere and is a fine SEC running back. The guy is a dang sophomore

He is still on the team, maybe, he can get some carries this season in short yardage situations.

He wasn't hurt, he was just buried on the depth chart by Dooley, redshirted last season, so he still has three years left. Maybe the extra year will help him, and the Vols.

Isn't Tom the player that had Mono, if so it can take a long, long time to completely recover from that.

Yep hill had mono. I've been waiting on tom to get a chance too.

Tom Smith is not as fast as Neal, but he might be faster than Lane. He played successfully in a tough and fast Central Florida division in high school, not as a speed back, but there weren't many DBs who caught him from behind on a sprint. Once he broke loose, most corners could not close on him. Reminded me some of Travis Henry the way he fought in traffic. He got good blocking from his line, and when backers tried to hit him and wrap him up, they had a natural fight on their hands. Tom was more the gentleman, but when the time came, he had "that dog" in him like Travis. Coaches try to teach that, but how could anybody coach a running back to play like Travis Henry? It's just impossible to do.

You got to put a CB behind Tom Smith to see how fast he can run.

Tom was a great back in HS. The word around central florida was that he was hurt...but maybe he wasnt.
Very hard down hill runner. Fast. Maybe he just needs some time to mature. Id bet that he will get reps over the next few years.
