Where's the excitement? Where is the fire in the coach and in the team?

What's so different about this year that we're playing so horribly at times. We beat two of the best teams in the nation to start the year off and then we go on a slide of epic proportions. We are 7-7 in a mediocre(at best) SEC. Scotty is finally playing up to his billing, Tobias is as good as advertised...and we are still losing. I don't understand how we come off the best season in school history and get so complacent at this point in the season. If they are hoping to make a run that mirrors last year's run then they are setting themselves up for a long and uphill climb to do so. Can one weak link(Melvin) really be the cause of all the problems?

I think I heard something during one of the games about Pearl having some NCAA issues. Didn't quite catch it all, though. Maybe that has had some sort of influence on the team and coach.

Chism was clutch and a difference maker in close games- Tobias does not compare currently! That is just something learned through experience.

Pearl seems distracted. I am not sure why.

The mess with the NCAA. Not having a point guard. Not having any good options at the 5. Turnovers and laziness have all played a role in the down year. Bad shot selection and looking like they have no clue in the half court sometimes also.

I agree with the lack of a good 5, no hustle, bad shot selection, bad play from Tatum, and a general lack of the ability to hit a clutch shot in any game

Free throws. Had to throw that in there. It's cost them at least 3 or 4 games. It will also be the reason they don't go very far in either tournament.

Lot of combined issues. Obviously the NCAA issues is a big problem; however I think the truth is also that we're simply not very good. I believe our hopes were raised by the early season upsets but remember, this team lost to a Division II team in exhibition. At the time we just explained it away but now it looks like it may have been a sign.

Been saying this for a while. They're just not very good and pretty much a 500 ball club. Looks like those pre season prediction guys were right about the Vols.

1) Guard play is spotty--Goins can be good some nights and bad others, but we don't really have a good 2 guard either. Not enough quality at the 1 and 2 positions.

2) Not nearly enough good inside play. Williams, like Goins, is inconsistent--and he IS our inside game. Nobody else is really worth talking about. One guy is not enough.

3) Tatum: His shooting and his game have fallen off badly over the course of the year. Doesn't do a lot other than take jumpers--and with his shot off he's not added much.

4) Defensive intensity--when we have it, we can be dangerous, but we don't always have it.

5) NCAA distractions--surely this has played a role, but all in all we simply don't have enough quality players.

Harris has capably replaced Chism's production

Not on defense. Not even close. And last year when we absolutely had to have a bucket, Chism would often come through for us. Harris, as much as I like his game, has yet to do so. But that's the difference between a talented frosh and a senior.
