What I like about CBJ

Not Wylo but there is one thing...he lost to the coach we just fired.

Other than that he's got a solid record.

I personally don't think that's enough to discredit a guy though. Every coach has a few games a year that he's challenged by a lesser coach. It just so happens that year the talent discrepancy was too much for almost any coach to overcome.

I dont think it discredits him either...but on the surface it sounds crazy.

With a full-strength UT team clicking on all offensive cylinders, as well.

To judge this hire on the one game that he lost to Dooley, I think, is short-sighted and overblown.

This is about the only time we hear people talking about any win that Dooley got in his three years. ; )>

I will admit, when it was first announced that we hired Butch Jones to be our next head coach, I was really underwhelmed and not exactly enthusiastic about the hire. I will admit I was caught up in wanting a big name guy much like everyone else. However, over the last few weeks as I've learned more and more about him and what he has done in the short time he has been here, I can honestly say I really like this hire. Here are some things I've noticed about him similar to our recent coaches that I really like:

1. Much like Phillip Fulmer, CBJ genuinely seems like a "good ole boy." From the small sample size of press conferences, interviews and videos I have watched, he seems like he cares about people and is a high character guy.

2. Much like USC's current head coach (for the sake of those still sensitive), CBJ is a program promoter. This is something that I think has gone under-appreciated to this point. So far, he has really talked up UT, (best facilities, championships, dream job) and has sold his vision for what's in store for UT (SEC and National Championships). For a program that has been struggling for a good while now, a little "hot sauce" could bold well for sparking some energy and life into the fan base, the team and create some interest for would-be recruits.

3. Much like Derek Dooley (bear with me here), CBJ metioned a specific recruiting profile he looks for with recruits with character being at the top. We shall see how that pans out, but so far, he has been out on the trail recruiting some kids that are supposedly high character as well as highly talented according to the scouting services.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to paint him as some amazing coach just yet. He will have to prove that on the field for me to say "This is the guy for the job." However, it's been so far, so good from Butch and I'm looking forward to seeing how we finish out with this class and for spring practice to get here.

GBO, VFL

Good post. I feel the same way.:good!:

I agree...you cant judge coach Jones soley on that game. You gotta judge em by his record which that game is part of.

Just out of curiosity...is there another coach that would have been a good hire that coach Dooley beat...not almost but beat.

Just wondering if coach Jones is the only one.

It's a pretty small pool to choose from; lol.

That is moronic. SEC athletes against Big East athletes is a poor comparison! Dooley didn't beat him - the players wearing orange beat Cincy players!

By the way, Jones' team beat Strong's team 2 out of 3, if you are comparing!

GO VOLS!!

Over the last few weeks? He has been the head coach for all of 10 days.

I like that Butch Jones is a very aggressive coach. I also love Bajakians play calling.

Why not though?....What's there not to be excited about?

Not being a douche this is for conversation's sake only because I honestly don't see a reason not to be excited.

His biggest win in three years was Vandy, because every single big conference game was a loss. This is after inheriting a 12-1 (8-0) team.
