Seeing how he had win yesterdayi n the Shootout, like him or not, how emotional would that be and what a way to start the Nascar season off.

Nascar would pay big money to see that happen. Keep in mind that Dale, SR won several Clashes/Shoot-outs long before he finally won his first 500. A win in the first doesn't always lead to one in the latter. As I posted in the race thread, this will give Jr a lot of confidence going in to the season.

I'd love to see it too. It's going to be a Hendrick car
winning for sure I'd say as long as they don't get caught up in wrecks.

I'd like to see it too. What a win last night. that was some great racing. I agree with mclovin about it being a hendrick car that wins the 500. if its not one of them i think it'll be smoke.

If e wins it, be prepared to get it rammed down your throat for a while. That's all everyone will be talking about.

Jr. Always runs strong at Daytona, no matter what the race and he has already won the 500 before. So his odds of winning are pretty good. GO JR!

I agree, and I'm sorry if I gave the impression he had not won at Daytona. He and DEI as a whole ran well at all plate races.

I don't know if Darrell Waltrip will be about to control himself if "Junebug" wins the 500 in a Hendrick car.

It may have been a typo, but wasn't it Bunkie Blackburn?
"Tiger" Tom Pistone
"Little" Bud Moore
"Coocoo" Marlin
Neal "Soapy" Castles
Rick "Wreck" Wilson
Glenn "Ahab" Roberts ( Fireball adopted it when the song Ahab the Arab came out. I've got his autograph signed that way, he even painted it on his race car)

Otherwise a very impressive compilation, especially if you knew them all yourself.

BTW, Thunder Valley is really the Dragstrip at Bristol, although some media people have referred to the oval too.

I knew CooCoo was Sterling's Dads nickname Clifton Marlin. I've also heard Sterling referred to as Chicken Snake because when he was young he threw a black snake on one of his farmhand buddies. And the guy hated snakes. So Tony Glover, his team manager knowing about the story give him the nickname when he and Dale Sr. won the Twin 125s in 98. Another fact about Sterling Marlin he actually set a cow on fire with his Daddy Coo Coo Marlin. Look it up, I ain't lying.

Ernie " Swirvin" Irvin also is left out of the list.

I checked an old Bristol race program and he was "Bunkie" Blackburn. An interesting tidbit about him, he drove a Camaro to a Land Speed record for Smokey Yunick. I don't recall the speed or any other details. He raced many times at the old Nashville Fairgrounds track.
To my knowledge he never won a Cup race, but did drive for the Pettys a few times.
