What if we beat LSU?

I will just hope that the Dawgs can surprise some people. I think they can, obviously I'm a homer but we have a few strengths going for us.

On Defense:
Its no secret that LSU is a run first offese. Our D is very effective against the run. I remember the UT D-line was pushing around the LSU O-line in the fist half of your game, and we have better D-linemen, LB's and more depth. Our D-line has to win the battle up front for us to have a chance.

Our secondary matches up very well against the LSU WR's. Our DB's are fast enough and physical enough to play with the LSU WR's.

On Offense:
I think Aaron Murray will create some plays for us. Murray will need to have a flawless game for us to have a chance because the LSU defenders don't make many mistakes in the course of the game. The LSU defense is also full of elite playmakers that will make you pay if you make any mistakes.

The run game is a HUGE concern for us. How long will Crowell last? We need Richard Samuel back in the worst way.

Our O-line will need to have their best game of the year. They need to create running lanes and protect Murray. They've actually played pretty good this year and have gotten better.

On Special Teams:
Our ST have been very inconsistent and horrible at times. Our kicker and punter are having their worst years as Seniors. We need all the points we can get and our field goal kicker have been awful this year.

LSU is excellent in the ST department. They have a good kicker and a very good punter. They also have TM7 returning punts, that kid can take over the game at any time.

To respectfully reply....Murray hasn't seen anything like what he is going to see against LSU. Not even close.

That's all fine and dandy. Doesn't change the fact that USC beat UGA and every other team in the Eastern division, and UGA is only playing in the championship game thanks to their cupcake schedule.

If you watched the game, we beat ourselves. USC just happened to be on the field. That was mentioned on air in the GA/KY game. We led in every catagory except turnovers. If that game was replayed today, I think UGA wins going away. But regardless of what you and I think, the game will still be played between LSU and UGA. That's just the way it shakes out.

Now, let's change the subject back to the BCS.

UGA is an 11 point underdog last I heard.

Just looked it up. Started at LSU (-10), quickly moved to (-11.5). I don't follow betting very closely, but could the line move as far as (-14) by Saturday? If I understand correctly, this would indicate lots of money being placed early on LSU (rightfully so, IMO).

LSU/Alabama are very similar, they do what I call the lean. Which involves field position and a smothering D. Once the field position goes in their direction it becomes a very tough game for the opponent, more so in LSU's case because of the depth at D.

LSU is not known for it's offense, but I think that can be deceiving. Only scored less than 35 points this season twice.

Georgia's best bet, go to the quick passing game, hope the receivers break some tackles early... see WVU game. Some timely run plays to keep it honest, hope Chavis goes to the zone like in the WVU game.

Attack Claiborne on quick passes. Running the ball is not going to work, there is no wearing down this D, they play way too many guys, it's not unusual to see 10-12 guys playing on the DL during the game.

- Quick passing game
- Pick opportunities for going down the field or trick plays
- Make LSU go all the way down the field on O.
- Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers... ie wrap up when you see TM
- Timely run blitz sell outs for run and run option plays

You never know, that is why they play the games.

Georgia had the best shot and easiest road in the east to Atlanta. I think had you played LSU, Bama, Arkansas as we did you would be 7-5 at best. The mental abuse of losing to those teams might have resulted in other losses for a 6-6 or worse season.

They play the games because anything can happen. It will be a home game for Georgia, but LSU travels well. LSU is pretty amazing this year. The hatter's luck is due to run out soon, but not this week. I say LSU by 21.

yep, Georgia's newfound optimism after beating a bunch of bad teams is about to be yanked away from them in an ugly way.

I don't think Georgia has a "newfound optimism". When you're the flagship university in one of the best states for HS football, should you not expect to have at least a decent program? UGA, UT, USCe, UF, Bama, *AU, KY, Vandy, Clemson, etc. are all full of players from GA. Should we expect to be a mediocre program with all that talent coming from our home state?

I think some of you are a little sour grapey right now, and I understand that. But most UGA fans are not overly optimistic about this season. We're not happy that, with all of the talent we have, we lost to BS and USCe. Plus we had a comparatively easier schedule than some. However, we did beat the defending national champions 45-7, much worse than Bama beat them. I fully expect LSU to win the SEC. But you'll have a hard time convincing me that there's a better team coming from the East. And if you ask most college football experts, they'll tell you the same thing. We might very well get our @$$ handed to us Sat., but the game will be played. And I'll be cheering the Dawgs just like you all cheered the Vols, win or lose.

You have to run the football to beat them....I just don't see it.

Yep, this is UGA's biggest concern. Hopefully Crowell and Thomas will be healthy after sitting the Tech game out. Wish Samuel wasn't out for the season.

And how much were the Vols favored by over LSU in 01?

Nah, my bet is that most people mistake the SECCG this year for a rerun of Oz.

LOL I can see that this thread was an attempt to get VN behind the Dawgs. Not gonna happen. You do realize that LSU winning will cause a much bigger controversy than Georgia winning?

Do you think I really care of you get "behind the Dawgs". You give yourself WAY too much credit. If that were my intention I would have gone to USCe, UF, even KY first. I was just getting some conversation started about the BCS. Don't kid yourself.

If that's the case, why are you here? You must value our opinions, because you know we don't value yours.

There are some classy, knowledgeable UT fans who's opinions I do value. BTW, do you own this site personally, or are you, like me, a visitor?
