What irritates you the most at restaurants?

You proved my point, you take things at face value and act like your some king because you paid for something. You don’t know what is going on behind the scenes but I would bet you don’t care about that, just that everything goes right for you. Also, tell me of a time that you had great service at a restaurant? Did you tip more than usual? Or just what is expected? I don’t know what happened to you, but if I lived my life based on what my experiences were then my life would be a lot less fun then it is. It isn’t ok for you to let life mold you and then blame “life” for the reason your a jerk to people. (Assuming you are solely based on what you have said, I could be wrong)

First of all you don’t know me....second experience forms opinions which guides decisions. I find it hilarious actually that you somehow claim yourself as the defender of waiter and waitress .. most people do not choose a profession as a long-term career choice if the transitional job in most cases .. Well Acutally the reason I’m able to point out things that irritate me and others do as well is that overall service is gone down tremendously.. also other customers Could care less whether they have a negative impact on your experience at the same restaurant...

It's been my experience that good tipping at the bar is often rewarded with most of my bill getting shifted to the spill tab. Just have to stay out of corporate joints and places that have their liquor weighed.

That’s theft.

Not by the customer.

I should also clarify that some places sanction a certain amount of comps. Unless you're a sexy lass, or a friend of the barkeep, the only way to be the beneficiary is probably going to be tips.

Only thing that truly irritates me is my waiter/waitress just straight up disappearing for 20-30 minutes. When i'm having drinks, it does irritate me when my check just randomly gets dropped off. But I try to sit at the bar if we are just having drinks and appetizers. One thing is for sure, working for the public will always be difficult.

You should also clarify if its a comp or spill tab.

I find it highly irritating that cereal is not an option on any menu.

The new trend is now tipping the cashier... really???? This happens at Panera Bread and at Jersey Mike’s .. what a F ... joke

Why on earth would I ask the question? I'm presented a check. I pay the check. I sometimes have drinks with a friend who always asks the bartender to lean on it without any expectation of paying for a double. Theft? Comp? Spill? Maybe some else gets a weak pour to offset? What about asking to have a couple rung in right before happy hour ends? What about buying shots of a popular call brand when the bartender is known to bring in his own untaxed bottle and run a separate sheet? What about paying cash and never seeing the bartender key in your drinks? These are management issues, not customer issues.

Truly, I don't spend much time in bars anymore but when I was younger and did so I sure as heck wasn't going to look any gift horses in the mouth.

Calm down there big boy, you brought up spill tabs and comps, thought you might know the difference. I also didn't catch the part where you mentioned this was back when you were younger and didn't know any better.

I'm good. I just assume that most bars factor in a certain amount of employee shenanigans as a cost of doing business and it's the management or owner's responsibility to make sure it doesn't cross the line. I'm sure each establishment is different insofar as what they'll put up with.

Yea there are good people in this thread... but some I need to put on ignore. My thing is, is that I have never been a person to think I am above anyone. I know a lot of people say that but I have seriously tried to live by that and I know the people around me have better experiences because of it (generally). I obviously think there are a lot of things that need to change in society, as I am sure almost everyone agrees with. However, if people can just respect people and see them as equal it would drastically change a home, a city, a nation.
Just because you believe a service is poor doesn't mean you believe you're above anyone. I can promise you I don't carry myself that way and frankly I'll still tip 15% if the service is average.

Now if you're talking about the people that become aholes to their server if the service isn't great, I'm right there with you.

Goodness man. Just because you believe a service is poor doesn't mean you believe you're above anyone. I can promise you I don't carry myself that way and frankly I'll still tip 15% if the service is below par.

When the service sucks .. I leave 0-5%

when I know that I've messed up and have provided a less-than-stellar experience, I'm not mad at anyone but myself for receiving a tip that I frankly earned. If someone does a poor job, then gets upset that they received a bad tip? GTFO

I think most places I frequent stress the customer service and service tends to be good.

Another thing that really upsets me is when fellow employees price gouge. Trying to sell the most expensive thing without ever giving the person a heads up on the price is a big no-no in my book. My bar has a wall of whiskey and some stuff is a little pricey. If the person isn't looking at the menu and they just ask about a bottle, I think it's the right thing to do to inform them of the price. Hey...heads up, that's $25 a drink. If someone comes in and has a good experience, then finds out that they drank 3 Sinatra Jacks, they're likely to leave pissed off, and it becomes the fault of the person who didn't inform the guest of the cost.

Yes, I don’t know you. I mentioned I might be wrong. However, according to your own logic (experience forms opinion) my experience with you would form an opinion that you are a very entitled individual that thinks when dining anywhere his opinion and experience is the only one that matters. Now, I don’t necessarily think that because you are just a poster giving your opinion. So, that might not be your character or beliefs.

I never said I was the defender of waiters or waitresses but I do know that they have to deal with ridiculous people that complain when something doesn’t go their way. So, I feel the need to help them out. I have always felt that you treat people like people you will always have a good experience.

I never said you did and I don’t believe you do if you don’t let it affect you hence your tip. I was more directing toward people that go in looking for something to be wrong.
