ESPN is covering UT men, Coach Pearl's practice, yet after the coverage is over they run old footage of the last #2 seeds upset by # 15 seeds, then the guy talks about Winthrop upsetting UT.Which is it? :dunno: They appear to have any outcome of our games covered.

Best case scenario............Wouldn't it be nice if UT advances, played North Carolina, beat them. Wonder what North Carolina signee, Tennessee high school player,MacDonalds All American Brandon Wright would think? :biggrin2:

All I know is Winthrop is averaging a 30 point loss in their last 4 tries to win an NCAA tourney game. I'm not saying they will be a cakewalk, but if we can't beat them we have no business playing ourselves.

Of course they are going to show past #2 upsets...it's about the way to hype what should be another day at the office for us.

It makes a lot of sense for them to do exactly what they are doing. In their eyes if winthrop wins then they look like the giant killers and everyone knows who Tennessee is.

Well, the other part that makes sense about it all is this.
Here's Tennessee with this gaudy 2seed and yet nobody in the country has really seen us play. Here in the BigOrange Nation it's easy to forget that we had just one national TV game this year(and Duke was playing opposite us I think). It is only natural for folks to doubt that which they have not seen.

And during these days before the tourney actually starts, the whole country is thirsting for an upset to pick in their office pool that will make them look smart.
Enter ESPN with the handy-dandy pick that will do just that. And so it goes until the first game tips on Thursday.

Then it's business as usual.

Tennessee is gonna run Winthrop out of the gym Thursday. It won't even be close.
There. I went ahead and said it.

I am not superstitious, but let's not start a prediction thread, OK?

ESPN has no respect for Tennessee no matter what they do.

Based on the last couple of decades, no one who doesn't love the Vols has any reason to respect what we have done this year. They probably view it as a fluke season in a down year for the SEC east.

Let's just go out and earn their respect.

Go Vols!!

I agree, thats all they have talked about is how Tennessee is overrated and doesnt deserve a 2 seed. maybe we dont but it seems whenever they talk about Tennessee vs Winthrop, thats what they bring up, ...they dont bring up how we beat Texas at Texas and how we swept Florida (SEC Champion) and won at Rupp against Kentucky.

Disagree. ESPN is doing a show focusing only on UT during tournament. It is up to UT whether that show is long running or not. Not some poor SOB who is only employed in March as ESPN "expert" to give BS opinions and predictions.

come on guys seriously. WINTHROP?!?!?! come on come on!!! there is not a team that is on our schedule, that is not better then winthrop. Every team we have played would beat winthrop. Freaking Auburn beat winthrop. Now if your tellin me, that we can't beat winthrop but auburn can, shesh. We may be burnt out, but we will still run Winthrop out of the stadium.

People think Winthrop will win because they beat Marquette, and barely loss to some average SEC schools, and Memphis. Well guess what we were second in the SEC, beat Florida twice, beat Kentucky, raped Texaus, and have an RPI of 6, we'll be fine.

Why do we need an English teacher? Most of them don't care about UT basketball at all. Why do you care how the grammar is and whether or not someone misspells a word. If that bothers you then you need to find a new hobby rather than correcting people's grammar.

Just to get it straight, we played three nationally televised games.

I can tolerate 1 or 2 typos, but it was truly difficult to read the post I commented about.

The Winthrop Eagles, making their sixth NCAA appearance in eight years, have the best-ever RPI for a No. 15 seed at 73. Winthrop won its conference during the regular season, won the league tournament and also shockingly won Marquette's four-team tournament in November, upsetting the home team in the final.

"That's three championships," Eagles coach Gregg Marshall said. "I don't anticipate another championship, but another win or two would be just fine."
