Since Saturday I have ascertained the following:

(1) Ainge still sucks. Hyams is on the radio saying that Cutcliffe has been worried about EA since before he agreed to return to Knoxville.
(2) Crompton is not ready to be the starter.
(3) Being an "all Vol" Tennessee kid, like Garrettson, is no guarantee that a player will have respect for himself or the program.
(4) Chris Donald may or may not have made a verbal commitment to ND coaches on his visit.
(5) Coach Cutcliffe says the offense is on page one with less than three weeks to the opener.

UF, UGA, LSU, USC all are simply walking away from us, they're moving up as we slide down.

I won't go as far to say that I expect all the gloom and doom that seems to float around the EA situation but I am not as comfortable as when we had a Established returner. Ex: Casey, Tee, Peyton, or Heath. My only worry with EA is he seems to start off to slow. I saw someone hear mention the same thing when he and Schaffer were starters. It seemed that EA did better when he came off the bench then when he started. It was like he needed to study the the defense first then he did OK. Unfortunately I think his psyche has not and will not recover totally from the hit that put him out from the ND game his freshman year.

I guess that's true to a certain extent, but I remember a few games where he got off to a quick start too. Like the 04 UGA game and a couple last year where he drove down the field to score only to be replaced by Rick. That's not good for the ole psyche either.

From what I've heard and seen, UGA is not far behind. They're losing some personnel to academic and extracurricular issues. And their QB issues are definitely not far behind although they have some depth to the issues.

but i think richt is a better coach, so that should help.

Richt had David Greene followed by D.J Shockley. It was kind of like us having Peyton and then Tee. It will be interesting to see how Richt and the Dawgs do with new QB's.

peyton was much better then greene. i dont know the compairison between tee and shockely, except tee won the naitonal title. i have to say i would right now take their qb situation over ours. (we have more potential but its not looking great)

yeah, we got kind of spoiled there.....Andy Kelly, Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Tee Martin.....that was from 89 to 99....pretty good run of qb's thru TN.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was getting at. I think the Dawg fans might be saying something similar eventually, only they never got their Championship while we did, so they didn't have such a big fall.

what would you say that have? they have JTIII who has proven nothing other than he's a serviceable back up. Joe Cox who's been in the system for 2 years now, and hasn't sniffed a starting role, and Matthew Stafford a true freshman with potential...

how is that different than our situation? Right now, we have a Jonathon Crompton(MS for GA), Bo Hardagree (JC for UGA), and Erik Ainge (JTIII for UGA). seems to fall right in line to me...

We don't have more potential. Matt Stafford will be better than anyone we have on campus.

How can you say that? Crompton was rated top-5 in the country and is supposed to have all the tools of a great QB. I think your conclusion is a little premature.

Spoiled yes - but we still have the talent to compete in the SEC - we just need the coaching staff to get us the rest of the way.

tnvolsfan - go back and look at the stats ...Peyton and Greene were pretty close - Jake hit it on the head...SPOILED - a victim of our own success.

Crompton played in the boondocks against pitiful competition in high school. Stafford played in the premier hotbed for college talent. I'll take my chances with the guy that actually played against guys who are now playing at Texas and Oklahoma instead of the guy who competed against players now on the rosters at Newberry and Lenoir Rhyne.

you guys are forgetting about Stephens - he was on pace to be as good or better than Stafford out of HS but got injured.

Stephens was never injured. He had to sit out his junior year because of a transfer rule i believe.

you sure about that?? I could swear that I read an article about him right after Stafford signed with UGA - stating that he is on par with MS.:dunno:

EDIT:Nevermind - he missed a season b/c he transfered my bad.
