What is the story with Bill Battle?

Condredge Holloway was Battle's best recruit.

Battle won some big recruiting battles, just not enough. Stanley Morgan, Mickey Marvin, Andy Spiva, Robert Shaw & Roland James were just a few guys who had great college careers and went on the NFL careers.

Larry Seivers was an All American WR from Clinton but he was the last guy signed in a class back when schools could sign 40 each year. Today, he’d probably be at Wake, Duke or Kentucky.

He was on fire the first 3-4 years. Then Dickey’s recruits moved on and we went straight downhill. Battle was the coach that lost to North Texas and someone ordered a U haul sent to his house.

Yeah, for someone that wasn't born in the era, it looks like Bill Battle was the better coach just because his first 2 seasons had a better record than Dickey's last season. However, you see Battle trending down after those first 2 seasons.
