None of this "my favorite funny movie" and "my favorite action movie" nonsense. Your favorite movie. The movie you have to own at all times and you've made 100 people watch with you.

Mine has been a toss up for a long time between Gangs of New York and Cinderella Man. I still think Cinderella Man has the edge. To me it is the best complete package in a movie. You literally find yourself on the edge of your seat during the fights, and Russell Crowe does such a good job playing the role of a broken man you really hurt for the guy.

Army of Darkness. I own at least six versions of it on VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray.

Lots of good mentions above though, Last of the Mohicans, Platoon, Gangs of New York.
Star Wars (the first ones) would be at my top but you can't buy a non laser disc version of the original theatrical release so I don't own them.

Comedy- Friday. The 1st time I watched it, I laughed so much that I missed certain parts. It took about 10 times to actually see the whole thing!
Horror- When I was 15, Friday the 13th-Part 1. Scariest movie ever when I was a teenager. Then we met Kane Hodder at a haunted house opening in Chattanooga- awesome.
Horror now- Paranormal Activity. Well!
Drama- The Godfather. Come on, classic! This is a movie I can watch over and over.

Just favorite movie. Just one.

I would seriously have to say a tie between Shawshank Redemption and Glory. Both just get me every time.

Shawshank gets me in so many places; when Brooks hangs himself, when Red is talking about how he just misses his friend and hopes the ocean is as blue as his dreams, and when he finally meets up with Andy at the end.

Glory has one of the best if not best musical scores I've ever heard. Plus the ending is a real kick to the gut as it's not a cheery happy ending. The last 15 minutes or so of that movie is so intense.

300.....bc it is still BadAss....and I'm Greek so I tend to favor that type movie...

Also, and God forgive me for liking one of his movies, The Last Samaurai.....great cinematography(sp) and just the story and what it implies with the past meeting the future....plus the actor that plays the main Samaurai, Ken Watanabe, is great in this movie....

The Karate Kid.
When I was little, I participated in karate tournaments every weekend, and I would watch that movie every Friday night to get psyched. I eventually got a black belt, so I thank Ralph Macchio for that.

Favorite movie is different from the best movie, though. The best is Godfather.

Forrest Gump if I had to pick just one. It's still one of the few movies that I can sit down and watch most any time and never get tired of. As bizarre as the stories are in the movie, they are told well and the time periods that are portrayed in the movie are authentic and well done. Great storyline and great characters. I'm a big fan of Tom Hanks as an actor and I this movie is a big reason why.

Shawshank and Goodfellas are two other movies that would probably round out my top 3. I don't think there's ever been a time where I found Goodfellas through browsing the channel guide, that I didn't flip over and catch at least a few minutes of it. It's definitely my favorite mafia movie with no close second. I've always thought the Godfather, although enjoyable, is one of the most overrated films of all time. That said, I know I'm probably in the minority in feeling that way.

Shawshank Redemption. I love the entire plot and the ending.

Good Choice that is an excellent movie.

My favorite movie is John Q.

It shows how far a man will go for his family. Denzel was perfect for the role of John Q.

The Big Lebowski

Because it's the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Funny. On my first viewing of The Big Lebowski I didn't think it was anything special and felt disappointed. It started growing on me a week or two afterwards, and now it's one of my personal favorites.
