Bam, you should read up a bit on the theory of "public goods" and its criticisms. I'm sure you already have at least an introduction to the topic, but I think doing a little more in-depth research on the matter may lead you to questioning whether the government is best suited for some of the programs in which it currently provides. One piece of advice I would offer is to look at differing sides of the argument so you can make a better informed decision as to your stance on what constitutes a public good and how that compares to the goods currently provided for by the government.

That is interesting. I'll admit, I'm not a economic expert, I want to major in Political Science after all. But I see the two subjects coexisting, you can't really know politics if you don't know economics.

So that means we can't cut DOD spending? :zeitung_lesen:

Silly stealth helicopters like the commanche, sure.

Wasting millions upon millions to replace the M-16 and then trash the program after you have bought 4 million XM8s, sure.

Cutting bases and wages...... nope.

I love my military more than I love the freeloaders of this country.

You have chubbily called the freeloading system the backbone of our economy.

More so then the military, unless you revolve your entire economy around the military, and 4% GDP rates don't qualify for that. Removing entitlement programs and unemployment benefits in the midst of a recession would be suicide. :birgits_giggle:

The problem is you have no desire to ever have the free loaders off gov't assistance.

I thought spending taxpayer money like a drunken sailor was the cure for recession?

I would settle for pre civil war powers. One of the many consequences of the war was the never ending tyrannical power of the federal gov't.

Like a drunken sailor? No maybe like four drunken sailors. Saving, and cutting spending in programs that have one of the largest impacts on the GDP doesn't make since. After all, one of the failures of FDR was trying to balance the budget during 1937.

I don't like to call individuals living off gov't assistance "Freeloaders". I know plenty of individuals that are desperately trying to find jobs and can't, and trust me, I live in an area with plenty of people who abuse the system/drugs. That said, I would like to see mandatory drug testing for welfare and reform.

1.) Imagine the gaul of the bastard............ balancing the budget.

2.) The people you know are the tiny %....... the 3-5th generation people who live off the system are the people you cherish. Don't act like you want reform.

Attempting to balance the budget when the economy was still shaky to say the least wasn't smart, neither was Hoover's attempt to raise taxes either.

Spend, spend, spend...........

Would you shat your pants if it were tax breaks for businesses and letting them hire?

Or that won't work cause the gov't doesn't run healthcare?

Obama sits in the highest elected office in the land and hasn't the first clue about business or economics.
