What it will take to keep Pearl...

So Pearl deserves a raise after that season?? He must have the CPF 8 win clause or something.

CBP does not deserve a raise after last season.

1) He doesn't deserve a raise....
2) This article really says a whole lot of nothing.

That is the same figure I was thinking about. Given what Bama is and UGA is rumored to be paying, $2 million sounds like the right baseline, maybe another 1-2K.

$3 million sounds rather ridiculous right now. But, at least $2 million is necessary to keep his salary competitive with the market.

If the 21/7 offer does come from Memphis, it is possible that Bruce will try to leverage it to get UT to match, but I have a feeling he won't try that.

I also am very skeptical about the part in Chris Lowe's article about Bruce demanding facilities upgrades - that just does not sound like something he'd say right now.

People weren't any more satisfied with Pearl's SEC East title and loss in the SEC tourney title game than they were Fulmer's SEC east title and appearance in the 2007 SEC title game.

That was a reality check for Pearl.

If that's the case, then Pearl really ought to think about maybe whether he's in the wrong profession.

What the hell?

Cal makes 3.7 per, Donovan makes 3.5, and Pearl deserves a raise just because he's going to compete against them? Cal's fresh off a national championship game appearance, and Donovan's cut down the nets twice. Do Stallings and Horn deserve raises too?

"He took his name out of the Indiana job mill early." That's rich.

The season was a downer compared to last year, but Pearl should not be making less than the coaches at Bama and UGA - unless UGA stuns us with a huge name.

There is no such thing as an SECE title. I'm pretty sure Fulmer came up with that vernacular to make his decade long slide without a real SEC title sound better.

If he tries to hold us hostage, cut him lose. UT has been just as good for Pearl as Pearl has been for UT.

I'm in the telecom industry so I think I deserve as much as the AT&T CEO because I compete against them.

UT fans are the worst. Can you believe they weren't "satisfied" with a loss to an otherwise NIT-bound Miss. St. team?

good points...

I don't think Bruce is leaving. He is just playin this out to see what type of incentive he can get out of Hamilton.

Thanks Griff

Exactly! If you bring in as much to your company as the CEO of ATT you will get the money.

Likewise if Pearl brings in the wins that Cal and Eddie Munster have he will get the coin.

Last time I checked, the names Stallings and Horn haven't come up for any bigger job offers. Obviously MH wouldn't have to give him a raise if this Memphis offer didn't come around.

Stallings was every bit as realistic to Indiana as Pearl was.

If you look at this from a business standpoint it is wise to pay to keep CBP. Why did CPF get the boot? Empty seats right? How many seats will be empty next year with a Pearlless team? so you pay the 1 mil more to make what 5-10 mil. It's a smart thing to do. As long as UT basketball is making money then CBP is worth WHATEVER we have to pay him to stay.

but this assumes that there is no way to make more.

If Memphis buys out Pearl's contract (close to $2.5 million), that would cut a huge chunk in what the UTAD owes Fulmer.

"It wouldn't seem unreasonable to pay the guy UT expects to beat those coaches $2 to $2.2 million next season."

This raises the question who else could we attract for $2.2 million?
