What Other Message Boards are Saying-Post Signing Day (Florida)

Gainesville is a sh-thole town. Maybe as bad as Starkville. Will never go back

Nah, it's pretty perfect if you're a college kid wanting to party and get laid. Sucks for anyone over 25 unless you work in the medical field.

He didn’t seem to bring that up in all his Mullen worshipping posts.

Because it’s silly, and wishful thinking. Numerous teams lost recruits to numerous issues last year. UF lost 5. Some teams lost just as many, some lost even more, some lost 3 or 4. That impacted UF sooooo much that they went 11-2 and will be preseason top 10 again this year, and will have the deepest team they’ve had in the Mullen era.

But yeah, hang on that “we re-ranked them and ONLY them to 17th last year.”

There is no doubt that if Currie would have hired Mehlen, we would barely be in the top 20 in recruiting if that. Dude misses all of his targets on ESD and NSD, and wouldn't have the benefit of all of that in state talent here that he does at Fl. 17 of their recruits in this class are from FL, and 4 of their portal players are also from Fl. So glad he isn't here. He's a good coach, but he isn't coaching 20th ranked recruiting classes to SEC championships. So glad he went to Fl instead of coming here.
It was always said that Florida recruits itself. Then Florida is still not meeting its own standards. Ron Zook was nowhere near the level of Mullen’s coaching expertise, but he left Meyer the framework of a NC. Mullen is outdoing McElwain...but that’s a low bar. Still this is a talented squad and he can coach em up. Let’s see if Pruitt can close that gap.

Our fans aren’t happy unless we get all our verbals signed and enrolled early, then flip every kid committed to another school who had UF in their Top 5...regardless of how many scholarships we have to offer.

UF lost a safety from South Florida who chose Miami. Ed Reed is now on Miami’s staff. Tough loss, but I understand.

Mullen continues to do very well with the transfer portal, while bringing in Top 10 classes.

Will that be enough? Time will tell.

In summary, 0-12.
Thanks for the honesty. No doubt that's rare these days. Eh?

Caveat here, though: Butchna poignantly mentioned that Florida recruited Florida in their heyday. I can clearly remember...going back into the 90's...how Spurrier, et al kept a large piece of that Florida talent pie for themselves; not ever needing transfers or grovelling for committed-but-not-signed players. Even Muschamp managed to do better. I don't know what's wrong down there. But something's rotten in Gainesville.

Thank you for the permission. 😴

You’re welcome.

Mullen was criticized after ESD after not successfully flipping 2-3 recruits from schools they were already committed to, while keeping all of our verbal commits from defecting.

If all of our guys waited until ESD to announce...without verbally committing anywhere prior...then Mullen is criticized for locking down his class at the 11th hour. UF luck strikes again.

Spin cycle indeed.

You have some extremist Florida fans who want to be #1 every year in recruiting like 99 and LW mentioned. Those extremists are the only folks disappointed in Mullen’s recruiting. I’m very happy with it and most Gator fans I speak with, are too. The roster and talent upgrade has been amazing in his two short years. You guys like to downplay it but what he’s done with the transfer portal to supplement his HS recruiting has been nothing short of phenomenal. The HS recruiting has been good and getting better, but any shortcomings there are more than offset with the talent he’s getting via the portal. Literally, UF’s best players on offense (Van Jefferson) and defense (Jon Greenard) were portal guys. His best returning WR (Tre Grimes) is a portal guy. He’s got role players all over the place that are portal guys. And all these 5* guys hit the field this year; Cox, Lingard and Shorter.

Mullen is slowly destroying what’s left of these rival narratives, some like you, are barely clinging on to the “he can’t recruit” by your fingernails. 😂

Facts are facts, bro. UF's fanbase is no dumber than ours...lots of knowledgeable fans down there in Gainesville, actually. Since this appears to be a prominent opinion via your school's site, let's figure fingernails don't apply here...just those flimsy little straws you're trying to grasp. Maybe Mullen's a competent recruiter (and supposedly he is) but this endeavor requires an extraordinary amount of teamwork from an extraordinarily talented GROUP of recruiters and analysists. The straws y'all need to be reaching for are those of better overall recruiting practices. Get it?

Hey guys... it’s perfectly normal to lose half a dozen of your highest ranked recruits, including your highest ranked, before they even make it to game 1! Totally fine. Nothing to see here! Especially when you replace them with transfers who weren’t playing at other schools.

All large colleges are great for partying and chasing girls. Gainesville still sucks. Smells of dead rats and trailer parks

UFs campus has a lot of top notch talent. Hell, most all of Florida does. I grew up in Knoxville and the women are definitely better looking here. A really hot woman for TN is just another good looking chick here.

Never experienced the dead rat and trailer park thing. Gainesville is a pretty nice, clean city except for a few small pockets. Muggy AF and horrible traffic though.

Dang... Mehlen actually got owned on in state talent. Only signed 10 of the top 50 in state players. And they were all still nearly 4 stars or higher... must be nice to be able to be so whipped in state and still rack up on 4 stars. Wow.

So Mehlen is not knocking it out of the park at easy to recruit FL? Guess the ones saying he would not make it at Tennessee were right.

This is exactly what I have always been saying...He would suck at Tennessee, but Florida is the perfect situation for him. You have to work a lot harder at recruiting to succeed at UT....at least right now.

Florida is so stacked with insane talent, he would have to be a horrible coach to not always have a pretty good class there...and he is not a bad coach.
