What other message boards are saying (Vandy pre game)

We literally won 56-0 yesterday and played backups for most of the game...just saying. Our offense has absolutely been out of sync for most of the season though against SEC teams. We should be 10-1 right now.

I think a lot of us VOL fans have forgotten that the Vegas/everyone on Earth predictions for this season were 8-9 wins. Vegas had o/u 8.5 . The rational fans on this board picked us 9-3 with more folks going 8-4 also than 10-2 by a fair margin.

This team has exceeded anyones reasonable expectations by going hopefully 10-2 and making the playoffs. The disappointment some fans feel stems from the fact that we have the #4 defense in the nation 11 games into a 12 game season...a Championship level defense for sure...and it feels like it will be wasted if we don't at least make the playoffs. I think that's fair honestly. Making the 12 team tourney is all anyone can hope for these days...and WE are very lucky to have a program now under CJH that is gonna make the playoffs hopefully more seasons than we don't. He has managed to keep us hanging around the top10 ...and the last 2 recruiting classes ranked 11th and now 6th or 7th depending on how we close in 2 weeks. Hype is 4-2 versus Flarda and Bama, even when they have had more talented rosters than us. The future is really bright at UT!! So many reasons to be happy and encouraged. The Negas around here suck azz and always will. Thankfully there are only a few of them...they just never shut up. Lmao.. GO VOLS WGWTFA
I agree with most of what you said here. As for the game Saturday, we beat a middle school 100-0. That's what's supposed to happen. I think a lot of people see how much more this team has been capable of this season. They're a click or two off, and it's fundamental stuff. Dropping balls, overthrown balls, questionable line play, etc. A lot of it is stuff you'd expect they'd fix week to week, but it continues. They've actually regressed in some areas.
The defense and our ground game are largely why we're in the discussion, and I'm grateful for that. It's nice to see us in contention for real again.
I think people mistake having a pair of eyeballs for being a nEgAvoL, and it's a bit tiresome.

Vandy is a weird team. Loss to GA State and a close win over Ball State, beat Bama and played Texas close. We will get their best shot. But if we give them our best shot, we win and cover.
30 years ago an emergent 5-5 Vandy team, trying to escape the SEC cellar, gave their best shot to an ascending Volunteer squad led by freshman QB Peyton Manning.

The audacious commodores even started a fist fight before the game(they lost that fight btw.....). When the dust settled, Vandy's bowl dreams were crushed 65-0, and the SEC had a new Sheriff.

History repeats it's self.

Crazy to me how you can be a Vanderbilt fan and not a Tennessee fan. Will never understand it
My father went to both, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. I had a lot of Aunts and uncles go to Vanderbilt. Of course, back when they went to college, Vandy was beating the stuffing out of Tennessee. However, when I was born in 1938, Dad was always a Tennessee fan and he bought his first season tickets in 1933. I still buy these tickets. I HAVE NEVER BEEN A VANY FAN, BUT I DO RESPECT THE UNIVERSITY, and I want to eat the socks off them every year.

That is true. But the Vegas line was set with the thought that NC State and Oklahoma were both top 25. Still a good season, as long as we beat Vandy.

I do note that when Vandy seems to be having a great year, Tennessee usually beats them soundly. Same with Kentucky.

It is the years that no one talks about Vandy where they end up scaring Tennessee.

The exception was 2016 where Vandy just pummeled Tennessee.

D. Barnett, Dobbs, and a few others were still giving their all, but that year was tragic. Butch had just lost the team by Vandy.

We went from being CFP hopefuls, to thinking we could win the East Division, to thinking we could salvage the year with a NY6 Sugar bowl.......

I can't believe the admin let Butch come back in 2017..... Rock bottom was layered with false floors.

One of the worst "What the other team is saying" to have to read. Not the posters fault...but the fact that there is no one on their board.

Stands...in a good year for them...will still be at least 70% Vols fans.
They don’t have a lot of fans to begin with, but that board has been toxic for some time. Whatever fans they do have, they don’t want to hang out there.

-LSU offense scared me more than Tennessee. All the pressure is on the vols this weekend.

-I don’t think they’re gonna light us up on offense… but unless Beck has some tricks up his sleeve he’s been saving, I just don’t see how we’re gonna score enough to win. I think the outcome might be kinda similar to last night against LSU, but it’s gonna be 200 yards rushing for UT instead of 300 yards passing.

-The more I think about it, the more I wonder if they will actually start Nate on Saturday. We’ve seen it all year, the offense does not have the juice when Pavia isn’t a running threat. I think if you really look in the mirror honestly, we may not have enough to beat Tennessee unless something changes (scheme, new plays, new personnel groupings).

-We can definitely ruin their season, but I don’t think we have enough in the tank.

-Gonna be tough. Pavia will have to be at his best and our D-line will have to control their O-line. When they go up-tempo they usually run the ball.

-Hey look, if we don’t beat them, they’ll most likely go on the road to Penn State for a playoff game. They couldn’t beat Franklin here, so go get em Nittany Lions.

-Pavia has to play out of his mind like he did against Alabama if we want a chance.

-It’s going to be extremely tough to stop Sampson on the ground. If we can’t at least limit him, gonna be a long afternoon.

-We’re 12 point dogs. I think we can at least scare them a bit and pull off a late win.

-You really can’t deny that Tennessee just gets stronger by the year under Heupel but I hope we beat them because there wouldn’t be a sweeter thing in the world than watching them limp off the field knowing that we broke them.

-Can we win? Yes we can! Will we win? Pretty much up to Pavia.

-I was hoping that Lea has been game planning for Tennessee for weeks. This win would solidify his career here for sure.
To that person talking about Penn St. I sure hope Tennessee plays them. Penn St and Indiana has only played one good team this year. Indiana and Penn St would be at best 6-6 in the SEC.

In middle Tennessee, lots of dudes who didn’t go to school there are Vandy fans because (1) it’s nearby and convenient to go watch them play, and/or (2) somebody they knew went there or maybe even played sports there, and/or (3) they are justifiably annoyed with the local townie Tennessee fans, and/or (4) they’re primarily into baseball or basketball and the Vols were pretty bad at those sports for a long while.
I’m in Nashville and the ONLY Vandy fans I know went to school there or has a kid in school there.

Josh Heupel holds a 3-0 record against Vanderbilt. And beat them by a combined margin of 149-45.
Yep, Vandy wasn't very good the last 3-4 years, but the is a new year for them. They beat Alabama just like we did and are gong to a bowl game this year. They have their season set on beating Tennessee and they are playing at home, what ever that means. Point is, they will be a stiff opponate Saturday, and if we are not ready, we could see another Arkansas ambush. Take this lightly and we play in the Music City Bowl.
