What our Offense could be

We just need to get 5 star players at every position for it to work though right?

or we could just get a new offensive coordinator and go pro style heavy on the run but precision on the pass and win more championships than alabama.

I don't really care for the spread offense. I kinda wish we could have stayed with a pro style attack. What does everybody else think? GO VOLS!

Great article - it showed the importance of great blocking tight ends - help that is on its way.

It was a good article and says a lot about the difference between the NFL and College football. The zone read is a very small part of what these NFL teams do, but in college it's the entire offense for many teams.

I'm not sure we know what Bajakian is all about yet. It was a lot easier to evaluate Chaney, or Cutcliffe because their resumes were so long. While they might have a wrinkle here or there, you knew what they were about.

Time will tell I guess.

Never really been a fan of the option scheme. QB is the most important position on the field and you do not win championships anymore without at least a great game manager. Most teams, I can imagine, can't afford to have their starter knocked out due to injury. The option just adds more hits the QB will take over the course of a season.

But if we can make it work and find a QB who can run it, stay healthy, and win ball games then I may need to look into changing my opinion.

Btw - the Cam Newtons of the world are an exception, not the rule when it comes to this.

I'm not a fan of the read option either, I am an old codger, I guess, but I prefer the Stanford type of grinding it out and putting a hurt on the defense. I also think a running game instills more character and discipline to the team. Just my opinion. Will be happy with any type of winning offense.

I have mixed feelings about an offense built like Stanford. That offense is built to punch people in the mouth and is great at holding leads, but isn't built for comebacks.

Like you said though winning with whatever offense is what matters.

I really love the read option, puts so much pressure on the defense, but would really love it with a qb that can run, and that is accurate.

Agreed. You gain another man in the running game by involving the qb. If you look at the best running teams in the nation, they all run some time of option.

The pro style attack is old, outdated and boring...Unless you have alabama style talent it doesn't work too well...At least with the read option you can do more with less...It will be fun to watch aka Oregons offense but it will take time to get the right talent here to run it properly...We don't have that talent here......Yet...Stay tuned

The read option is boring and I would wager it will go the way of the do-do, single wing, triple-option and run and shoot in a a few years. The more teams that run it the shorter the life span. There is way more diversity in a pro-style offense.

With receivers who can catch, a beast mode RB, and a QB who can run and throw touchdowns (<--important), the read option is great. Once the kids buy into the system and have it down you really have the ability to keep the opposing defense guessing all the time.

Read option makes it allot harder on defenses. Power I football you read and react. Option your on your heels waiting to see who has the ball, you can't react as quickly.
Now if you can put a team on the field like Bama or our old teams you don't need the option. You can line up and play smash mouth football. Man on man, my guy beats your guy and we win. Don't know if anyone has noticed but we can't line up man on man and beat many teams anymore.

It seems that all you have to do, in rehabbing your rep, is be away from a program for a year (or less)...seeing increasing amounts of Chaney love on here lately...I cringe as much as the next guy about this year's version of our offense...but I give a little credit to a new slough of talent fitting into a new system...last year I bemoaned some of the calls...especially near the goal line...and the tunnel vision ala in the novice Sanders era...I think Coach Jake WANTS to expand the scheme...but this crew hasn't grasped the basics...Worley had the best grasp of this scheme and we would have seen more and more creative wrinkles...if he had improved his accuracy...how about we wait a year before we erect a statue of our former OC?
