What our Offense could be

Look beyond the picture. The best utilize the most efficient system for their depth and quality of players. There isn't a one size fits all offense and never will be. Obviously, there are fundamental design principles applicable to any system, but you have coaches desperately trying to install NFL systems verbatim at a lower levels falling flat on their face.

I don't really care for the spread offense. I kinda wish we could have stayed with a pro style attack. What does everybody else think? GO VOLS!

Don't let lonelawyer here that. He'll accuse you of everything from hating the coach to witchcraft.

I guess, but I prefer the Stanford type of grinding it out and putting a hurt on the defense. I also think a running game instills more character and discipline to the team. Just my opinion. Will be happy with any type of winning offense.

Why can't we do both? Why must it be one or the other? IF we get the talent here we should do both. Run Read option and then Pro Style and lay a hurting on the D. Wear out the D all game. Make then run one play and then make them have to stop a bruising back. One minute your 4-5 WR pitching and catching, next 2-3 TE pounding the rock, next 2 back set with 2 WR and TE throwing wheel route passes to the back/WR out of the backfield. It would kill the LB and safeties and wear out the DL.

The read option is boring and I would wager it will go the way of the do-do, single wing, triple-option and run and shoot in a a few years. The more teams that run it the shorter the life span. There is way more diversity in a pro-style offense.

This.

Nicely stated, and you've hit one of the high points on why the Pros use it. Protects your QB, and gives you a real option of multiple threats, not just the task of trying to contain a scrambling QB.
