What players in Tennessee could we offer to somewhat save this class?

Stars mean nothing.

You do realize you're selecting out of a much larger group of players right? We've had less 5* than we have 2* and 3* so your pool is much larger. Why don't you include 4* with 5* and compare that to 2* and 3*? That would be a more fair comparison, and you would have to take the 4* and 5* players. So it would prove your theory wrong. You can't just leave out 4* players?:eek:lol:

what about cam clemmons? he's a UT legacy with a big frame that could grow up to be a starter

This is a much better comparison.... 2009 NFL draft by recruiting rankings....

5-stars: 6 in the first round, including #1 overall Matthew Stafford, 1 in the second round

4-stars: 12 in the first round, including #7 overall Darius Heyward-Bey, 5 in the 2nd round

3-stars: 6 in the first round, including #3 overall Tyson Jackson, 11 in the 2nd round

2-stars: 7 in the first round, including #2 overall Jason Smith, 14 in the 2nd round

5* made up 11.3%
4* made up 27.4%
3* made up 27.4%
2* made up 33.9%

However... like mrbamseydu said, this info is a little misleading because there are more initial 2 star players then 5 stars...either way it reveals some quality info....

I am glad you guys are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel instead of focusing on stars.

The percentages of stars at the NFL is a little misleading but you can use percentages on your own recruit history as far as measuring output per star player.

At LSU, 2 and 3 stars are the most efficient in my opinion, 4 stars are important because they make up a large percentage of the class but if you get the right 2 and 3 stars you can have a great team.

Alright! Great news! I was always hoping Darkwa would get a chance at UT.

I was hoping he would get an offer as well. The kids videos are great, has good speed, and runs HARD! He may not see the field for 2 years as a RB...but I would bet on ST he could play alot. To me if the kid is a borderline offer...and he bleeds orange like Darkwa has said on camera several times...you have to offer.

I say go hard after Leache Seastrunk...he had Tn on his list but dropped them because he didn't want to play for Kiffin and staff. He had an official scheduled for USC this weekend but canceled whent he new coach was named. We should try to schedule a visit to Knoxville...I think he will like Dooley's integrity.

Our 3stars have been more productive than our 5stars no doubt...

I think that stars tend to hurt players more than help them. For instance, we land 5* LB Chris Donald and everyone expects him to be amazing from his highlight film and 5 star rating, but he never lives up to it. I mean, I don't know why Donald was never a star here, but can you imagine the pressure of being a 5 star and being the prized recruit of a schools class? Everyone expects you to be awesome.

But on the other hand, you have 2-3 stars like Montario who nobody had heard of coming out of high school who have a chip on their shoulder, and who work their butts off just to get on the field. I definitely appreciate that.

Bam, you are correct, I definitely had a bigger pool of people to choose from in the 2-3* range, and honestly, 4*s are the biggest contributers to the program from what we've seen. I just think that it is more likely we get surprised by a 3 star than we get our expectations realized by a 5.

Dunno. Watching the offensive highlights of Dooley's La Tech team against LSU tells me that he gets a lot out of his players, and he seems to evaluate talent pretty well. I'm just gonna trust him and hope he locks in a good staff.

And I would LOVE to see Tennessee become full of Tennessee kids, as long as we had a staff that could develop them.

If you guys got a lot of talent in TN, then it can be understand, but this class of TN prospects arent that good. UTK needs the elite prospects, and players that can be developed.

If we do that we will never get back to a championship level. Development and heart can only carry you so for eventually talent over comes that. Tennessee just doesn't produce that many Div. 1 players and even less SEC caliber players as I can think of only three guys from in State that seem to be serious SEC talent and that's Maclin, Smith & Stone.

I am glad the 1980s USA hockey team didn't have you as a member.

Does anyone know if we have targeted Tim McAdoo? He is an animal. Reminds me of Dan Williams. I know he is committed to UK, but probably the best in-state player I saw this year.

My question is what about the players that left the program when Kiffin was hired, Lennon Creer, Preston Bailey, Darius Sawtelle, Ramon Johnson, etc. Can they come back and do we want them?

I will be very interested to see how CDD approaches next years in state class, there is much more talent for 2011. He would be wise to fill the class out with in state players or border players from surrounding states. He would do very well to creating some in roads into the Memphis area for the coming years.
