He's a terrible passer, but so is Vince Young and he's working on his fifth season in the League. I'm sure Newton will get a shot at QB.
Yep... Between his world-beating wunderlic scores and Uncle Rico delivery, I was sure he would be a bust.

Five years later and the jury is still out. He's still in, but... Well, if Erik Ainge is still getting paid by the Jets, then anything is possible, I guess.

The Vince Young of 2006-2008 was a pure runner and terrible passer. The Vince Young of the last 16 games is totally different. He has really developed as a passer and has matured. I may not be solid entirely on him still at this point, he just wins games. As a starter he is 31-15.

This is funny. Newton is too talented a QB prospect to waste anywhere else. He'll be a QB.

^^^^

The dude has legit technique as a pocket passer. Auburn doesn't use him in that way, but it doesn't mean he lacks the skills necessary like Tebow did. He'll need a couple of years, but he has the tools necessary.

That's hardly saying much.

Young is a decent QB but that's about it.

His game winning % is in the top 25% of the league in games started since 2007. A bit better than decent. I think...Just sayin... I'm a Colts fan by the way....

Better % than C. Palmer, M. Vick, M. Schaub, J. Delhomme, J. Cutler, and superboy M. Ryan just to name a few...

You probably shouldn't put Garrard or Campbell in there, they both suck. Jury is still out on Wallace he has looked decent in games this year. The point is though look at the more successful quarterbacks; guys like Manning, Brady, Favre, etc most good quarterbacks are generally white.

Nothing wrong with saying that, and its usually a given that most running backs and wide receivers are black.

Yes but about 24-25 of those wins are against sub .500 teams. He's yet to prove he can lead the teams to wins over good teams.

I'm not buying he's really developed as a passer. He's better than he was, but again that's not saying a lot. The jury is still definitely out on him and this being his 5th season, that isn't good.

If the jury were still out on him, Collins would be the starter now after yesterday. Vince has secured his spot as a starter in the NFL. No QB on a Jeff Fisher coached team will ever put up stats such as Manning or Brady. Considering the offense strategy Fisher runs, Young is excelling at passing this season.

Young has only secured his spot on the Titans and the only reason for that is the man that calls the shots, Bud Adams. The jury was never IN for Adams, he wanted Young and that was that. You're kididng yourself if you think league-wide Young garners the same respect he gets on the Titans.

And I guess I missed those years McNair was excelling as a drop back passer.

If the Titans don't franchise Young, I bet he plays for another team at the end of his contract (as a starter) by his own choice. I don't think he enjoys playing for Fisher, and I also don't think Fisher backs Young the way a head coach should back a starting QB.

McNair was never an elite "passer" in the NFL. Yes, his passing was better at the end of his career than the beginning, but he was never on Manning and/or Brady's level with passing. He had the ability, but the offense limited his opportunities.

You brought up McNair not me, but Young is ahead of McNair at this same stage in their NFL careers. McNair sat on the bench for several years before he got the chance at starting. Once McNair got his chance, he was thought of very similar as Young is now. Everyone called for O'Donnel (sp) over McNair when McNair finally got his shot. (I was a McNair fan BTW.) I was at the Titan's game when McNair got knocked out of the game and the crowd cheered because it meant O'Donnel was coming into the game.

Not if you compare their first 5 years of majory playing time. Yes McNair sat the bench 2 years but by his 5th season of major playing time he was ahead of Young who is in his 5th season and his passing was no question better.

That's the whole point. You shouldn't wait on McNair to start before you begin comparing. If Young had stayed in college for his senior year and rode the pine for 2 years as McNair did, Young would only be in his second year of starting. Young was 3 years ahead of McNair before McNair even made it into a starting role. This season for Young is equivalent to McNair's 2nd year starting, and Young is way ahead of where McNair was at that point.

One method is to sit on the bench and learn which is how McNair was seasoned into a starting role. The other method is throwing the QB into the fire from day one and learning on the job. This is often a tougher route at least from the mental stand point. (see David Carr for a prime example.) Young took this method and had a major mental breakdown which may have improved him more than anything else. The breakdown seems to be the trigger that got Young focused on studying the game as much as using his talent.
