I really enjoyed his mention of how he was looking for players that were looking for 4 years of play.

I'm tired of "1 and done" situations.

Exactly, I sure hope you aint looking north saying, "So glad WE don't have that problem. It would really suck to get guys like John Wall and Demarcus Cousins". I agree with the 4 year player thing but top players usually want to go to the NBA and use college as a stepping stone. I'm more than happy to let a couple of those guys play on UTs team for a year.

There's a positive and a negative with saying that. Positive in the fact that stability is important and we need it, but negative in recruiting elite talent. We dont need to shy away from recruiting the nations best talent. Look at Kentucky.

My favorite part was when Coach Martin mentioned his cancer battle. He didn't say "when I got cancer", he said "me and my wife had cancer". Interesting choice of words, no selfishness whatsoever. As we know Cancer doesn't just affect the patient themselves, it affects the entire family. Coach Martin is winning me over. I feel like he's already won over all the players as well, he seems very genuine. GO VOLS!!!!!!

Yeah I noticed that too.

I think he was actually meaning that your team has to have some experience on it. He seemed open to recruiting one and dones, but not building the program around them (as if he could anyway). What has put UK over the top this year is guys like Liggins, Miller, and Harrelson stepping it up in the postseason.

What stuck out the most to me in the press conference was how many times this dude licked his lips.

He never said he wouldn't recruit elite talent just that he would prefer players who stayed for the duration of their eligibility.

My verdict is still out on the guy. I do like him though. He said some pretty good things. If he can keep the current roster and Jones and Ware, that should give him and his staff time to get another good class coming in. Especially if we can get back to winning and back in the tournament again.

It's great that you've given him this long.

I'm just saying that actions speak louder than words. And there was one action that spoke volumes about him to me already. He took the job! Knowing we have sanctions coming down the line. Knowing we could loose scholarships and he might be able to recruit who he wants. He did step into a great job but with clouds over top of it. But there was someone else not too long ago that did that for us. He coaches our football team. And he did one hell of a job last year. If Martin can make our lemons into lemonade then praises be to him.

Huh? That's like me saying I'm tired of being a millionaire! Name our last 3 one and done players?!

I was upset he never referred to himself as a VFL. He is obviously looking to leave. Who do we get when he bolts to Purdu e?

His first sentences. The acknowledgement of the great players and coaches that have graced our program.

Well, you picked one guy I wouldn't have wanted anyway and a second I wouldn't trade 4 yrs of Lofton for. Calimari declaring NBA draft day, "The greatest day in Kentucky basketball history," shows a completely warped sensibility and I'm all for calling folks with that mentality "the bad guys" with regards to college basketball and battling them tooth and nail by not giving in.

"It takes talent to win a championship, but it takes character to repeat," said John Wooden. Imagine what he would think about falling short of the title then bailing.
