Great minds from around college and professional baseball weigh in on Tennessee hiring Dave Serrano as its head baseball coach.

I've said it a million times, but you can tell a ton about a coach by what their peers say about them. Dave is highly respected and I'm glad he's back in Knoxville. He's going to do some special things here.

Great hire for the Vols. I fully expect both the Vols and the Ducks to see Omaha in the fairly near future.

I think Tennessee baseball fans are excited for the first time in a long time.

Lots of reasons to be excited about Coach Serrano. Many people who know a little bit about baseball and who's opinions are valued.

Exciting time for Vol Baseball!

Like I said in another thread. Serrano could have stuck with the status quo and took regular trips to Super Regionals and even Omaha at a baseball school. Instead he decided on UT. If that's not a shot in the arm to a wounded fanbase, then I don't know what it'd take.

Just from reading posts on tigerdroppings and shaggybevo, this hire has certainly gotten a lot of people's attention.

This ole boy, his wife, and friends will be coming back to see Vol baseball next season. We are all excited with CDS coming back.

I remember all the glowing quotes about Raleigh= I believe everyone was from Jack Leggett or one of the genius' former assistants or players.

These are a lot more believable.

Consider, Todd Raleigh is a disciple of a coach with ZERO national titles. Serrano is a disciple of Augie Garrido with 5 titles I believe.

I live amongst the MSU bulldogs, obviously, and baseball is the sport they have the most success in -- mind you much more success than us. The fans here are quite impressed, to say the least, about us hiring Serrano. TIFWIW, but they are certainly knowledgeable about their baseball.

I'm excited about the hire, but just like any hire, it comes down to wins and losses. Either he gets it done or he doesn't. GBO.

Absolutely agree, but his track record says he will win. He may have to use more than "one tank of gas to recruit", which is the dumbest statement I've heard in a while.

This is the most exited I have been about a UT sports coaching hire since the Weeklys were hired to coach womens softball.

I went to a few games this year, and loved going. Even when we were losing. I am highly excited to go to more games next year. Don't we have a really good recruiting class coming in?

I fully expect to see the Ducks in the same boat as tOSU in the fairly near future. I'd probably keep a close eye on your boy Harris before he goes and sells some memorabilia/signs some autographs to get that $8,300 in unpaid fines he owes.

Oregon doesn't belong in a baseball discussion. You guys are the Twins of college baseball. Great facilities, terrible on-field product. The way you guys are going though, I'm sure you could tempt a few blue chippers with some MLB cash.

You realize that the program has only been revived for 3 years, right?

The first year was obviously terrible, the second year, we made the NCAA tournament as a 2 seed, and this year, we narrowly missed the tournament.

When was the last time that Tennessee even made the tournament?

Excited about Dave Serrano becoming UT's new Baseball Coach. He is a proven winner and a good guy.
